Caledonia - Camera crew assulted

UPDATED: Bad move by protesters. Global News in Toronto is reporting, and showing footage, of a group of native protesters in Caledonia attacking a camera crew and stealing their equipment.

A camera crew from CH news was assaulted today when they refused to turn over their video tapes to protesters. The camera crew had been filming several protesters who had surrounded an elderly couple's car. When the protesters realized they were on film, they accosted the crew and demanded the tapes. The protesters then attacked the camera crew, and stole the cameras and tapes. (it does not appear they have been returned)

Unbeknown-est to the protesters, their attack on the camera crew was caught on armature video from across the street.

The WORST part of this is that there were several OPP officers RIGHT THERE, and they refused to intervene. THESE MEN OUGHT TO BE SUSPENDED WITHOUT PAY IMMEDIATELY for not stopping an assault occurring immediately in front of them.

Attacking the media crew was the dumbest thing they could possibly do.

UPDATE: This just in from a commenter. If anyone connected to the protests, the OPP, or the Government of Ontario is reading this, THIS KIND OF ACTIVITY IS DISPICABLE... GET THIS SITUATION DEALT WITH IMMEDIATELY.

The tide is going to turn if this keeps up. Now that stories are coming out about members of the media being assaulted, there will even MORE reporters going in to get the scoop. This is all going to turn public tide against the protests... and the responsibility for any fallout or incidents that occur will rest solely on the shoulders of the protesters.

    Hey, didn't you know, this is all native land. The camera crew was trespassing. As native land is sovereign, they have the right to beat people senseless as long as it is within their laws. If it is not within their laws the warriors society (I think) will deal with the offender. If anyone has a better description of Mohawk laws and customs can you please post it here.

    I hope jgriffin is being sarcastic. If not, I think the Criminal Code of Canada would be a better description of the laws. You can't just beat someone up for filming your image when you are standing in the open. You give up your right to privacy. Or perhaps you might find the Bible a more suitable law/custom. Thou shalt not steal. (also covered in the Criminal Code of Canada).

    I am not a friend to Canwest Global, but I feel for these reporters/camerapeople. They don't deserve to be robbed and beaten.

    I don't think so. It is McWimpy's fault. He is hoping he will wake up from this bad dream. Court orders have been defied. Nothing is being done. How is it that we Ontario residents are putting up with this? Worse yet, how is it that McSquishy's APPROVAL RATING HAS GONE UP????? What kind of lame province do we live in?

    I was just annoyed before. Now I am OUTRAGED!!!! Sorry for shouting, but this is therapeutic.

    Uh oh ... what these "protesters" eerrr ... jackholes don't understand is never bite the hand that feeds you. The MSM is sympathetic to this sort of nonsense.

    Look how well the Liberals were treated over the past 13 years by the likes of print and digital media. By attacking TV/Radio crews will now assist in turning the tide. Possibly we will now get accurate reports .. not the glossed over crap we're so used to seeing.

    Besides .. If the rudderless leader of the Liberal Party of Ontario thinks he can hide behind the rudderless print/digital media in Ontario .. he has another thing (quickly) coming. Who does he think he is ??? Chretien??!!

    This rudderless party used Ipperwash as a platform during the last Provincial election. With no vision (then or now) they have effective handcuffed themselves.

    Good on them!!!

    I think we can count that no-one in Caledonia or the surrounding area will ever vote "red" again.

    Okay,

    Let's see if I got this straight. We let protesters rip up roads, burn bridges, ignore court orders, intimidate, put dozens of people out of work and beat up camera crews and Ontarians must show restraint. Rough up three Americans and suddenly we have seven arrest warrants.

    Let's do the math; that's seven arrest warrants for for every three Americans, about three hundred protesters at the site, so about three bus loads Americans should yield sufficient warrants to arrest every person at the site and put and end to this fiasco.

    Anybody want to charter a bus?

    Just went down to the Frontier (Caledonia) this Saturday night. Just blew my mind what I found out. We are led to believe this about a land clam dating back to the 1841’s. Wrong!!
    The Hennings (Henco) obtained the land before a another man, who also wanted it. This man is called Hill, he runs the tobacco plant on the reserve and was caught in the early 90’s, smuggling cigarettes from the US. He wanted that land to build a casino on it.
    That’s right, this dispute is about a casino!!
    Since Hill did not get the land, he is going to steal it. He brought up two women from the NY reserve, one being Jameson , these two started this protest. Then, Hill brought in Mohawk Warriors from the US, some with Army experience, the leader is (you are not going to believe this) an ex-navy Seal!! At the present, this ex navy Seal is fortifying the land, conducting weapons training with automatic guns (gun registry??) building Bailey Bridges over the RR tracks, cutting trails in the woods for quick escape by atv. Chainsaws are going all night cutting roads in the woods. Gunfire in the daytime. These thugs have gone to some of the residents telling them to leave their houses. These thugs are paid by Hill.
    Now, why are the OPP not doing anything?
    This going to stun you, Gwen Boniface who is the head of the OPP in Barrie Ont. is a full blood ‘Mohawk’ distantly related to Hill. Yep, that’s why nothing is happening about that injunction issued by Judge Marshal.
    I talked to the woman who handled the handkerchief to the wounded CH camera man, she said he was in very bad shape. The OPP did nothing, despite screams from her and others.
    Further, the OPP officer who was run over, was in very bad shape, the native who hit him aimed the car directly at him to kill. Rumour has it, the US Mohawks are quickly leaving for the US to escape attempted murder charges.

    I ask all blogers who read this, to ask your readers to demand the protestors being removed from the site, and McQuinty to ask Gwen Boniface to step down, as she has a very serious conflict of interest here!!!
    Spread this from Newfoundland to BC and email the OPP, Ontario Govt., plus the CBC, CTV, CFRB 1010, CHML 900, and other TV and radio stations and any other you can think of like MP’s, Ont MPP.
    Do this for Monday morning and flood thier e-mails, demand this be looked into

    This land stolen for a casino!!

    I find it interesting that this is all happening a scant 72 minute drive from the heart of Canada's hot-bed of intelligentsia: Downtown Toronto. Yep, all those latte-sipping, NDP-loving intellectuals in the Beaches and Cabbagetown, who love to pontificate about how Maritime hicks and Western Canadian rednecks have demeaned First Nation Canadians, now have to sheepishly hang their own heads in shame at the racism and bigotry that is fomenting in their own backyard, almost within sight of the CN Tower ..

    .. gotta love it !!
