"Ditzy Chicks" not selling well
It appears that many Americans don't want to hear the anti-Bush Dixie Chicks anymore... but we lefty Canucks just love'em...
But you gotta love that statement about our good old nutty and ravenously anti-Bush city of Toronto... sold out show, with a second concert booked. Forget "Toronto the Good", try "Toronto the Red". (or "Toronto the Blue", for those of you living in the U.S. of A.)
"Basically, they're having to rethink the entire tour at this point," Bongiovanni told Reuters. "Clearly their problems seem to be strongest in the red states," he said, referring to those areas carried by Bush in the 2004 presidential election.Interesting... areas that have stong lefty contingents are selling well, while right leaning locals are getting canned due to low numbers. Weird how that happens...
Still, ticket sales were strong in cities such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Toronto, where a second October show was added to the schedule after the first concert quickly sold out, he said.

Their last album went platinum down south shortly after its release, so I think the Dixie Chicks are doing just fine in the US.

Hmmmm .. lets see. Their supporters state they are doing extremely well. However, the CNN link provided by CC proves differently.
Livedaily.com has the following tour dates for the band .. so stating that they are selling well in Boston, New York, Philly and TO is a MOOT POINT.
What about these places (listed below) where the CNN report has 5-6000 seat sales??? It's not like they're only playing a few dates.

I love the Dixie Chicks! I think that it's a shame that they & others in the States aren't really free to say what they think without censure. Whatever happened to the Fifth Ammendment down there that guarantees all Americans the right to say what they want, even if it's not exactly an Americanism. Some people down there worship their country - I seriously think that Americanism is a religion with some people! - & they think that anything said against their homeland is blasphemy. The only blasphemy is anything said contrary to the Word of God, & nowhere in the Bible does it say anything about holding up your country as sacred.

From someone who's actually seen them live, let me just say this. They were only mildly entertaining the one time I saw them (the third and final Lilith Fair in Toronto), and in their 5 song playlist I got really bored of them. Maybe that's why their not selling in the southern states, people are just sick of their music. It happens. And if they're not getting all that much radio play here, people might not be sick of their new stuff yet. (Course, I get bored of country music pretty quickly - I'm willing to own up to that.)
Anyway, (yawn) there are more interesting artists than these 'Sin Wagon' girls. Try looking at Matt Good - a Canuck, and the fact that after he wrote his song Alert Status Red, parodying the panic in the US, he was banned on radio there, and not picked up again. And that's a shame considering the gritty and honest nature of some of his lyrics, and his musicality. (I've seen his live shows twice.)

Having freedom of expression does not guarantee freedom of consequences from expression. If I said in the media that I loved kicking puppies and shooting newborn kittens and announced a concert tour, I'd expect those statements might affect the sales. Probably more than the fact that I suck.

No one ever said the Dixie Chicks don't have freedom of speech. Of course they do. Just like the radio DJ's have the SAME freedom to call upon thier listeners to bring their Dixie Chicks CD's down to the radio station where they will be promptly chrushed under the steam roller. How's THAT for equality of rights? Bang on if you ask me.
Too many people in the world today have based their hatred for Bush on baseless, cowardly horse $hit. He's a swaggering, uneducated Texan who speaks with a southern drawl. Hmmm, I think the Dixie Chicks have the same drawl. Uneducated? Actually during campaign '04 it was shown that Bush's IQ was actually slightly higher than the nuanced/metrosexual John Kerry. Lied about the war on terror? Hmmmm, I could quote the likes of Bill and Shrill Clinton and half of the DNC all calling for the immediate removal of Saddam, but hey, I'd only be proving my point.
Bottom line, the left, that spectrum of society that professes goodwill, tolerence, sunshine and dasies are the exact opposite. Chronic pissers/moaners and the first to yell "not fair" when given a taste of their own medicine.

Actually, I'm not sure who came up with the "Ditzy Chicks" nick, but it wasn't me. But I like it. ;-)
I used it because I don't like the way those in Hollywood or the music biz critize Bush... like Green Day's "American Idiot" album. Sure, you can disagree and state that you do so, but some of them have no tact at all. They just hate him, and tell the world they hate him.
If they simply hated his polices, I could respect that. But their unrelenting personal hatred of the man is in and of itself deplorable, IMO.
