A Government of Action

Remember Zahra Kazemi's murder in Iran for taking photos? Remember the previous Liberal government's virtual inaction on the file?

How's this for action? Canada (under the new Conservative government) has officially asked the German government to detain an Iranian official presently in their country who may have had something to do with it. Our request is that he be held in order to be tried for crimes against humanity.

That request took some guts. It may well start a diplomatic incident... stand your ground Mr. Harper, stand firm. Stand up and tell the world that we don't take kindly to our citizens being tortured and murdered.

Will keep you posted. If the Germans comply with our request, look for the sparks to fly.

h/t to seanblog.

UPDATE: The sparks are already flying... but not before Iran gave us the finger...
"The Iranians left Geneva on Friday, demonstrating that the world's opinion doesn't really matter much to them."
