Would Christ be considered a bigot?

That's what Mark Peters implies in his post, "Jesus Christ, Bigot".

And I give a hearty AMEN to his comments. In our day and age, Christ would indeed be called that, by the very same "progressives" who teach that Christ would be accepting of people's sin, if He lived today.
"Jesus Christ did not come to earth and die on a cruel cross so that we could wallow in our sin. He came to pull us out of it and give us eternal life. He came to call sinners to repentance (Luke 5:27-32). There is no grounds in Scripture for social justice taking precedence over sin; that is man's attempt at avoiding the problem and gravity of sin and is an affront to the Cross. There is only one thing that trumps sin, and that is the blood of Christ, shed on Calvary's cross for the forgiveness of sin. Social justice, no matter what form it takes, does not negate sin nor trump it in the eyes of God, nor is the Christian encouraged to accept sin in order to be politically correct or socially "progressive".

But nobody wants to hear about sin, nor have to deal with it by accepting Christ's forgiveness, nor have to possibly live according to what God says is right and just. That would be unjust by today's transient social mores. So, instead of repentance and forgiveness for sin we substitute social justice and acceptance of it. We would prefer that Christ had let the adulterous woman go on her way without repenting. It's an abominable sleight of hand.

Jesus Christ never ceased to show genuine compassion, love and understanding towards his fellow man. Christians the world over are called to do the very same and it is a shame on us that we fail in this regard so often. But Jesus Christ never, ever compromised righteousness nor did he let people continue on their path of sin without being challenged to repent. He was absolutely politically incorrect, especially where sin was involved. He never missed an opportunity to challenge people about the sin in their life. Re-read the Gospels if you remain in doubt. Christ always called people to repent and turn away from sin."
That's just a portion of it... go read the whole thing for yourself. Mark said it far better than I could.

I remain steadfast in my belief that Jesus was actually one of the biggest liberal hippies out there (I say this as a compliment, btw, not as an insult). The people who Jesus offended the most were the religious and the conservatives of His time. I don't believe that the religion that was started in His name has anything to do with what He stood for.

My view is that Christ was blunt about what it took to rejoin the creator and in that regard he was not a liberal eg. anything goes is okay.

Liberals are free to do what they want and Christ would have allowed that but with a caveat as to potential outcomes.

Christian ideology is more in line with left-wing thinking than with right-wing thinking. The religion revolves around one man and suggests that humans should worship and love this one man as their absolute leader.

I believe in individual empowerment, individual responsibility and believe that pride is not a sin, but is something that every man and woman should have.

I respect Christians a lot, as is evident in any of my writing, but I consider it to be far more compatible with left-wing thinking than with 21st century Conservatism.

Still, there are those who take passages such as the one you posted as it applies to law and order, and they feel that the far left is completely out of line with Christianity.

    It's an interesting thing.

While I agree with much of Peters' comments. Conservative Christians often forget that Christ also preached a more compassionate Christianity than what is being practised today.

He advocated feeding the hungry(Matt 24-25). Whether or not it's the responsibility of government is debatable. Regardless, are Christians doing this themselves?

He warned us that we would be hated, our rights would be trampled.

If Christ were here today, regardless of the sin of homosexuality, I'm sure he'd be hanging out with the homosexuals, trying to reach out to them. Cause the "sick" are the ones needing physicians.

How are we Christians reaching out to the "sick" today. How are we reaching the hookers, the homosexuals, the druggies today? Or are we sitting in our living rooms watching our plasma tvs and commenting [and blogging] from afar?

Anon @ 1:11pm, you're bang on on a couple of points there. The advent of "plasma TV Christians" does trouble me quite a bit... not that having a nice TV in and of itself is bad.

I do in fact, however, know many Christians who are involved in these areas of helping others... though the number of them is far too few, in my opinion.

William, you are correct, Christ actually taught communism... the early Christians had everything in common, and supported one another. It's the modern day variant, ie. USSR, China, Cuba, and now Venesuela, which I oppose, as most often it is rife with anti-Christian, anti-family, and humanistic dogma.

To the religious revisionists, I would ask this: If Jesus were a mere man, how and why did he end up on a Roman cross, particularly at the time of Passover, when no Jew would have wanted another Jew to be executed. And, please, don't tell me that he was a political revolutionary who opposed Roman rule, since he didn't even oppose the paying of taxes to the Romans.
