A day of contrasts

So, I wake up good and early this morning to go have breakfast with good old Minister Monte Solberg... and a few dozen of our mutual friends.

(a much better photo this time... last time he came by, I had some lady in the background wreaked the picture)

Anyway, contrast that to right now... where about 30 yards from my office door, stands my McGuinty Liberal MPP, whom I'm helping plot to unseat this coming October. And for further irony, one of the men I just had breakfast with is the man we want to unseat her... and I said just that to him mere hours ago.

It was kinda funny... she came by, was asking about our jobs, asking what sort of needs we have in our department. Of course, I respond with all the respect that someone in her position is due... regardless of their political stripe. However, all the while, I'm sitting there, answering her questions politely, and thinking to myself, "Lady, you have no idea who I am, or who I just had breakfast with... and how much I'm working in the background to unseat both you and your Federal counterpart."

Life's funny like that, I guess.

You should have told her who you are and who you just had breakfast with...The "So?" expression on her face would have been priceless.

You behaved professionally and appropriately, as do most conservative-minded people in the public service or broader public sector.

Besides, outing yourself as a conservative in that setting might bring unwelcome and unfair repurcussions on you and your colleagues.

I tip my hat to Joan, she gets it... jDave, not so much. ;-)

Only two people in my workplace know that I'm a well connected local CPC member... and I'd rather keep it that way.

Any idea how many of those two care?

You didn't hear it from me, but I've learned that the rather large dude, 2 cubicles over from you, who always seems to have cheezie dust all over his keyboard and mouse is secretly a Liberal! He'll deny it if you ask him, but my sources tell me that he was seen on a bus, reading THE STAR (like that isn't a dead giveaway), and chuckling to himself over what appeared to be a column that was critical of Stephen Harper. I also heard he's secretly planning to wear his Liberal thong that he got at the convention every day through the entire Provincial Election campaign.

My sources tell me that he's got a blog and everything!

    Satire my friend...Look it up.

But hey, while I've got you here, maybe you'll respond to this comment I made on another thread that you never replied to:

Speaking of credibility, how's Donald O'Connor doing? Is he actually reading the scripts Harper sends him? How are those travel expense reports coming along? Is Bev Oda still throwing money at Tory ridings without oversight?

And on the subject of crass partisan advantage, what's going on with the hospital wait times? I'd been told that it ws promise delivered, but from what I understand, it turned out to be a lot less than that....

Andrew I have just come across your blog for the first time and find it interesting. You do know that Guelph isn't in the GTA don't you?

Well never let it be said that CC is not a true Tory:

As soon as you ask him about any inconsistencies between what the Tories say and what they do, he gets all quiet and refuses to answer.

What's the matter? Waiting to hear from the PMO as to what your reply should be? Did you leave a voicemail with Sandra Buckler asking for the latest spin and talking points?

    Pathetic.

Actually, for the record jDave, I've just completed one of the busiest weeks that I've had in months, and haven't been able to post much at all... notice that I only had like 3 posts all week? ;-)

    To FINALLY answer your questions...

"Speaking of credibility, how's Donald O'Connor doing?" He's doing just great, for the non-politician he is. That's why I and 2000 of my friends gave him a standing ovation back in March. He's not a politician, he's just a regular army "get things done" kinda guy. Too bad the media wants to only focus on his missteps... mostly based on poor information, no less.

"Is Bev Oda still throwing money at Tory ridings without oversight?" Don't know much about this one, haven't seen too much about it in the media. (looks like it was a flash in the pan, not much substance to the story)

"And on the subject of crass partisan advantage, what's going on with the hospital wait times?" Still being worked on, last time I checked. We've been much more successful on this file than the previous Liberal regieme, getting the ball rolling in many different areas. Don't forget, out party supports less interference in areas of provincial juristiction, so our job is to get the tools into the hands of the provinces so they can address their biggest areas of need. When it comes to co-ordinating standardized wait times across provinces, that's one area where the Federal gov. is responsible, and I know there's been considerable movement.

Cataract surgery is one area that has been identified as a major problem... now if we could just get Dalton and his crew moving a little faster... shouldn't be too big a problem, as it's an election year, after all...

Hope that addresses some of your issues.
