I'm a REAL Young Conservative!

So, by now you've all see the new Young Liberal ads, mocking the stereotypical "young Conservative".

Most young Conservatives I know are FAR from that stereotype. The vast majority I've met at various events are regular mainstream people, not geeky dweebs... real people, just like you and me!

So, how do we respond and break the stereotype? Why, by creating a new Facebook group, "I'm a REAL Young Conservative"! They've got almost 900 members, and I'm sure we can beat that!

Join up, and spread the word.

Is it hard to blog in hip waders?

Am I the only one who didn't think that these ads were particularly creative for "young" liberals???

If there hadn't been any MAC ads to parody off of, would they have not had the creativity to come up with something???

    (shrug)

Funny guy James... the group has existed for just a couple of hours, word is still getting out.

I'm a Conservative, thank you very much... just a guy who actually believes that this country is for all of us, not just you elitists.

The "Hi I'm a Liberal" Facebook group was started yesterday. It now has 936 members.

    In case you were wondering.

By the way, how many members does the Young Conservatives have altogether?

Sorry. Forgot. Harper cancelled that group and blocked all moves at the convention to start one up.

What part of your ass did you pull 'elitists' out of? Seriously...

And while you may be a conservative, you're afraid to admit as much at work...Oh I know...fear of reprisal and all that...

I thought the ads were cute, and I've no doubt that they were done by young people and not influenced by the old boys club. They'd have been mean spirited if the big Ls had put their mitts in.

You'll find that people who identify as conservatives aren't big on groupthink. So, what's your point?

Tell that to Sandra Buckler and the kind folks at the PMO. they seem to think they, and only they speak for all conservatives. Real conservatives and Harper bootlicks anyways.

Christian Conservative - if you truly believe that this country is for all of us could you please tell Harper to deal with his hatreds (hates Liberals and once said the NDP were the devil itself). A large portion of our country are Liberal, NDP, Green - he's suppose to be PM for all - and hate and representation DO NOT go together and quite frankly not very Christian.

I think the Liberal kids did a fabulous job. At least support youth getting involved no mater what party they support. That's the Canadian thing to do.

Remember Harper - we are Canadian not American.

Well, since you have taken it upon yourself to represent young Conservatives, let me ask you:

    a) What is your opinion on anthropogenic climate change?
    b) What is your opinion on evolution (to pick a simple religion vs. science issue)?
    c) What is your opinion on gay marriage and abortion?

I await the answers to these question which, as you have assured us, will be representative young Conservative answers.

    Thank you.

Anon @ 1:50, I'm just one of many in Canada's only true "Big Tent" Party. While some of my views may differ from many of my fellow young CPCer's, we all get along just fine, and are able to find consensus on the direction we want this great nation to go.

To answer your question (which you could easily do by looking through my blog):

    a) not as big a concern as the eco-facists want us to believe... and something we can't control regardless
    b) I believe in a six-day creation
c1) I oppose SSM, support civil unions
c2) I oppose abortion as the murder of an innocent child

All these positions are clearly stated on my blog. Again, I'm one of many within the CPC, and we all have differing views. I don't represent "Young Conservatives", I simply am one of them.

Actually, I've always opposed a "youth wing"... it's nothing more than a sandbox in which to let the little kids play while the "grown-ups" get down to business.

I've had far more influence as a regular member than I could have possibly had being relegated to the sidelines within a youth wing.

I wonder how many other “REAL” Conservatives have been “redeemed by the shed blood of the risen and eternal Lord Jesus Christ”… Are those unredeemed in such a way not “REAL” Conservatives? Are there other types of Conservatives… phony, wobbly, soft, somehow not “REAL” in one way or another. What does “REAL” mean?

  • At Fri Jun 01, 09:24:00 a.m. EDT, Blogger Christian Conservative said…

Simple, Red Tory... REAL Conservatives are REAL people who support the Conservative Party of Canada... and not the false and stereotypical constructs as portrayed in the recent "Hi, I'm a Liberal" online ads.

(however, the Liberal portrayed was quite accuate... lying, arrogant, know-it-all, thinks her view is the only acceptable one, etc) ;-)

Hold on a minute...in the comment above, you said that your party is a "big tent party" but you'd put down your party's youth supporters? My god, your arrogant.

So, the Young Liberals come out with a good, solid ad that got some media attention for under $1000, but they are "playing in the sand box"? Of course, your just jealous that your party doesn't recognize you or your friends.

I've had far more influence as a regular member than I could have possibly had being relegated to the sidelines within a youth wing.

Influence like what? Running this crappy blog? Good on 'ya there buddy. Or, perhaps your a member of a riding association? Perhps a board member? Perhaps a membership secretary? Perhaps you've even managed to worm your way up to President? That's not influence.

Political parties just full of self-indulgent twats who have nothing better to do than fight their way to the "top".

Your a nothing, get over youself.

Wow Teej, your really didn't read a thing I said.

"Hold on a minute...in the comment above, you said that your party is a "big tent party" but you'd put down your party's youth supporters? My god, your arrogant."

Yea, we're a big tent party... but how on earth did you infer that I "put down my party's youth supporters" from anything I said? I said that I don't support pushing them aside into a box... whereas I do support making them full fledged members, respecting them as being equal with the rest of the membership, and being involved at every level. For the record, 60% of our Board is below the age of 40... 30% of the board is actually below the age of 35. And several of us are in key positions, working hard to move the principles of the Party forward in our communites.

"Of course, your just jealous that your party doesn't recognize you or your friends." Far from it my friend, far from it.

Interestingly enough, when I was at Carleton's Model Parliament, the makup was about 60% young Conservatives, vs. 20% Young Liberals, and 20% "other". Even with an organized "youth wing", they didn't have nearly as many politically active youth as the CPC supporters did. Funny that, eh?

One time huh? Well, thats some conclusive proof you have there.

Perhaps you should be checking out this post:

    http://mrerl.blogspot.com/2007/06/liberals-make-their-stangle-hold-on.html

Are we doing enough to get today's youth (ie...ME!!!) into the Conservative Party?

I think the Liberal Party is starting to get a bit ahead of us when it comes to "appealing" to today's youth...

Your own party's supporters are saying that your not doing enough for youth members. But keep your head in the sand instead of fixing the problem, by all means. It won't get you anywhere though.
