Embryonic stem cells from unfertilized eggs?

According to the CBC, citing a Nature report, American and Russian researchers have found a way to create embryonic stem cells from unfertilized eggs.

This, if it can be replicated easily, is a MAJOR breakthrough... one that I could support. Having just posted some negative comments on a couple of Liblogs about embryonic stem cell research, it's nice to see something positive on this front.

Too bad our Canadian researchers weren't working on this avenue, instead of using the unborn to conduct their research, as one might use a lab rat or a fruit fly.

Once again, and for the record... it's NOT stem cell research I oppose, it's EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH... which involves the murder of the unborn.

    This sounds quite good.
I've also read about efforts to use unviable embryos as stemcell donors.
I guess there is still the dilemma of who calls the embryo unviable.
