Dion on SPP... a flip...

... and a flop.

Man, what a weird kinda day... I'm actually agreeing with the NDP.

    And the flip/flops are where???

To my knowledge, Dion has never said that we shouldn't be meeting with the Americans and Mexicans. He's simply arguing against the secrecy. And you have to admit that the PMO has done a terrible PR job here. In not saying much of anything, they've left themselves wide open for the kinds of things being speculated.

Dion also didn't preside over the Canadian delegation at the SPP meetings, Paul Martin did. So, pinning this secrecy thing on Dion is pretty tenuous ground on which to base a flip/flop.

Very true, dirk. However, Dion was a key memnber of the Martin government, and obviously in full support of the SPP undertaking, including the apparent secrecy. He would have spoken out if it had been otherwise.

Dion eventually became a key figure in the Martin government, but was never in the inner circle, because of his close ties to Chretien.

Dion had to pick his battles carefully under Martin, given that his own position in the government, since he was not a member of the Martin camp, was tenuous.

Long story short, it's not fair to tar Dion with the Martin brush.
