But will they pay his legal bills?

Word from the Toronto Star that ousted candidate Mark Warner may run under the Liberal banner in the next Federal election.

I say go for it! Why? Because in the Nomination forms signed by Mr. Warner, there's a nice little clause that says something to the effect of;

"I agree not to run as an independant, or for another political party, or to support anyone running for another party, in the next Federal election"

So the question is, do the Liberal really want to take this guy on, with all the potential associated legal costs? ;-)

    he was dumped by the party. he's a free agent and free to do what he wishes.

    sour grapes dude.

    the negative press from a legal battle would harm the conservatives and certainly boost warner's profile.

    Not if he signed a contract expressly forbiding him from taking that course of action.

    And before someone turns around and says "The CPC broke the contract by ousting him", the contract expressly says that the Party retains the right to remove a candidate if they feel there is due cause... and the "can't run for another party" clause is there to ensure a situation of this nature does not arise.

    It's not sour grapes, it's just reality... the guy signed a contract, which has not been breached and is still in effect. If Warner can't keep his word, then his word is worthless... that's not good optics for a politician, any way you look at it.

    I say let him. The fact that he would make such an about face in the period of less than a month raises serious questions about his commitment in the first place.

    Doing so, like his accusations of racism, undermines his credibility. Quite frankly I was giving him the benefit of the doubt until I saw his racism accusations and the rhetoric of certain other Tory bloggers.

    Warner was not conservative and got dumped for that reason and that was a good thing. He fits more with the Liberals or NDP.

    Your totally right! A conservative wouldn't attend an HIV/AIDS conference! That's icky. Nor would they advocate for affordable housing for their constituents. If they want better houses, they should work harder!

    Yup, a real communist Warner is.

    No wonder anonymous' ridiculous comment was made anonymously! Since when can't conservatives care about the spread of HIV/AIDS and maybe go rub shoulders with Bill Gates and Clinton? What's "un-conservative" about affordable housing or a progressive education plan for the country? Warner would have made a great conservative under Bennett, Diefenbaker or even Mulroney. Perhaps it was his skin colour and acceptance of others that kept him off Harper's CPC ballot? Lord only knows, I suppose.
