Liberal/CBC-gate?

This is an interesting allegation... and from a former Liberal Cabinet Minister no less...
"According to [Jean] Lapierre Liberal Members of Parliament asked former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney questions written by journalists at the CBC regarding any involvement in the spectrum auction for cellular and wireless devices.

"I knew all about those questions. They were written by the CBC and provided to the Liberal Members of Parliament and the questions that Pablo Rodriguez asked were written by the CBC and I can't believe that but last night, influential Member of Parliament came to me and told me those are the questions that the CBC wants us to ask tomorrow." (CTV Newsnet, December 13, 2007)"
What? The CBC working in collusion with the Liberal Party of Canada? Take a look for yourself...

Nah, couldn't be true... could it?

Let's just put it this way... it would not shock me in the least.

Mike Duffy put it this way... "I find this astounding."

UPDATE: Another member of the Blogging Tories just leaked the Liberal Party's new soon to be released logo...

What a non-story. If the CTV suggested some questions to one of the MPs, would you care?

    Huh? Non-story?

CBC's Filth Estate, and more specifically Lyndon Macintired, have made this thing out to be something far greater than it is.

On the adscam anniversary they made "these shocking revelations" to help out a flaccid Liberal party.

Macintyre expects to get some kind of award for this tripe.

Now that it is fizzling, CBC wants to continue to manipulate though scripted questions.

When is CBC going to investigate what Paul Martin got from the Desmarais while in office? How many stuffed envelopes equals one steam ship?

    What about Shawinigate Jean?

You probably think the CBC is objective too Justine. So sad.

Not nearly as much, BECAUSE I'M NOT PICKING UP THE TAB FOR CTV.

As the CBC is "supposed" to be Canada's official public broadcaster, there's a greater onus on them to maintain political neutrality. We've been accusing them for years of deliberatly crossing that line, and now they've been caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

This is NOT a "non-story"... this is H-U-G-E, and this allegation must be addressed immediately.

Ok, guys, take off your tinfoil hats for a second, take a deep breath, and really think about the situation. If this story is accurate, all that happened was a member of a news organization suggested some questions to one of the committee members. Andrew Coyne has been posting suggested questions on his site for weeks now. Is that not okay either?

Joe Comartin, when asked by Duffy about the CBC thing - said that ALL media journalists do this - they all make the questions they'd like asked - including "CTV" said Comartin. Then, Duffy looked sheepish.

    Duffy should be FIRED.

By the way - are you trying to divert attention to the "be careful what you witch(hunt) for? As in previous polling practices...hmmm...????

$31 million by Harper - twice as much as any previous government... uh huh.

You do not have to answer a reporters questions, but in the ethics committee ALL questions HAVE to be answered. To allow the press to get their questions asked in committee is an abuse by the CBC of the power of the committee.

Where do we draw the line?
Maybe Pfizer could have a Liberal MP ask if Mr. Mulroney uses Viagra? Or maybe someone could ask if Mr. Shreiber likes Pepsi over Coke? I am sure Paul Szabo would allow such questions because they have just as much to do with Airbus as the ones he allowed on the cell phone spectrum auction.

Here's the problem... the reporters of the CBC are funded by the government. The CBC directly spoke with the Liberal Party and suggested a line of questioning in an effort to tarnish the current government. Questions that were NOT, by any stretch of the imagination, realted whatsoever to the Airbus affair, which this committee was called to examine.

And that's okay by you? It's okay for an arms length agency of the government to seek to generate negative stories? Note, we're not talking about REPORTING negative stories... we're talking about ACTIVELY GENERATING negative stories.

On our dime. Investigative reporting is one thing... Inventive reporting is another.

Bollocks. One CBC reporter thought (and may still think) they had a connection, and tipped a committee member. Big frigging deal.

What a non-story you say. Yes it would be a non story if the CBC had asked the Liberal members to ask a question than was in the committees mandate.

However the CBC chose to have questions asked concerning the sale of Spectrum and was allowed by the Liberal chairman of the committee.

It's time to have CBC reporters called before the committee seeing that the spectrum issue is now within the committees mandate.

"$31 million by Harper - twice as much as any previous government... uh huh."

I may not be good at math, but am much better than the moron who posted that. I'm pretty sure $31 million is not twice as much as $29 million. Maybe you are using Liberal math. You know, $41 million missing from adscam, pay back $1 million. Yep, that means were even.

"In 1993-94, for example, the federal government spent $4 million on 90 opinion polls. By 2004-05, there were 621 polls at a cost of $29 million."

p.s. If you still can't figure it out anon the $18 million was the average from 1993-2005. They spent $4 million in 1993. You figure it out.
