A Must Read Book!!!

LOL... gotta love this new book out of the States...

WASHINGTON – Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.

"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do."

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:

creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;

satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation; augmenting primitive feelings of envy;

rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

    Sigh.

    The reason I'm a liberal is because I believe so strongly in freedom.

    I also like how JFK put it:

    “if by a liberal they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people, their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil right, their civil liberties… if that is what they mean by a “liberal” then I am proud to be a liberal."

    I love how this writer takes a perfect description of conservatives and applies it to liberals. Nice. :)

    What a crock - really, it is. I don't know one Liberal that is insane, etc.

    Now, who do we know that was tolerant, believed in helping others, that church and state should be separate, who said it was wrong to make money on religion, etc. - his name was Jesus Christ - do you think he was insane?

    Anon, who said ANYTHING about making money on religion? I, for one, don't agree with mixing business and the church... I don't recall having said anything otherwise.

    TCH, that's NOT what I mean when I use the term "liberal"... because I agree with all those things you listed. I wouldn't equate those things with your typical current day Liberal, I'd equate a "government should solve everyone's problems", a "we know better than you so take your hateful ideology elsewhere", and a "culture of entitlement" and eliteism attitude we see so common in today's Liberal party membership.

    If they truely ascribed to JFK's quote, we'd all be a whole lot better off... and I might even vote Liberal.

    Heck, I don't even generally vote Liberal. I generally vote NDP. The problem is that liberals and Liberals aren't necessarily the same thing. One is an ideology and the other is the name of a political party, some of whose members actually are true liberals and many others who aren't.

    I myself am a liberal (but not a Liberal), and I think JFK's quote fits perfectly with what I stand for: a healthy balance of freedom and compassion.

    Seems the last quote is right, except for a little revision:

    When the modern *Republican (Bush/McCain)* mind whines about imaginary victims (WMD), rages against imaginary villains(Saddam) and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives (Patriot act/ID cards/phone taps), the neurosis of the *Republican (Bush/McCain)* mind becomes painfully obvious

    (Ron Paul is the only to fix America)

    Interesting that ONE doctor says it's so and many others have said otherwise - and those who don't like liberals choose ONE doctor's opinion.

    Sigh.....what a world we live in.

    Any medical professional that would come out and make an asinine claim like this deserves to be made a laughingstock. What a joke.

    It's a joke when conservatives are called crazy, and it's a joke when liberals are, too.

    This garbage wouldn't last 5 seconds of peer review. It's sole purpose is to provide some warped legitimacy to pseudoscientific morons that parrot it - and it allows the author to announce his support for the non-ridiculed side of the political spectrum
