Some people just don't get it

Our friend, Garth Turner, loves to keep stirring the pot like no one else can. In his most recent post, (which I think is supposed to stand in for a sort-of apology) has this to say under the section entitled, "Things I've Learned"...
"that a bunch of people in the West can’t get over a 28-year-old policy and a dead prime minister. What a burden to carry around"
Well, as a Central Canadian who "gets it", I thought I'd take a stab at trying to explain it to my fellow Central Canadian...

Mr. Turner, when you've been forced to watch as a particular political party economicaly exploited your province in the name of political expediency, have been too long governed by this same party that obviously cares nothing about your economic well-being, and who while in Opposition are now once again proposing to devastate your local economy in the same way they did 28-years ago, you better believe that the folks "out West" would have a very long, and unforgiving, memory.

As George Santayana said, "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." Well, it looks like the folks "out West" have learned all to well from history... they've learned that the Liberal Party of Canada cannot be trusted to look out for their best interests, and that the Liberal Party of Canada is more than willing to sacrifice them economically at the drop of a hat if they think they can squeeze more votes out of Ontario and or Quebec. They've learned their lesson very well... and you bet they're going to do their best to ensure that Mr. Stephane Dion NEVER becomes Prime Minister.

Because they don't want to be forced to bear the additional burden of having their lives ruined AGAIN by a yet another Liberal Prime Minister's program.

This is the same person who in that post, which was supposed to be an apology to those he offended, apologized only to Stephane Dion and ended up hurling insults at the others.

As an eastern Canadian I will add one thing to your comment. Who is it that is really selfish here. The people who want to keep some of what they took risks and worked hard on to develop or the people that want to take it away from them for political purposes?

What a bunch of BS - really, it is.

Whether you agree with Garth Turner or not - what happened to the freedom of speech.

Also, have you ever read the bigoted responses on his site - especially against the French and gays - from CPC trolls. It's terrible.

Same on the Blogging Tories - awful.

    Have you no shame?

Anon@3:05, how your comment relates to what I wrote really, well, escapes me.

Garth is free to write whatever he wants... I'm just trying to help him out of his obvious lack of comprehension of the issue at hand.

As for the "trolls" who comment on his blog... I happen to think that many of them are idiots too. So again, how the idiotic and often racist and bigoted comments they make reflect on me, again escpaes me. If you think we're all the same, then you're sadly mistaken...

anon asks: "what happened to the freedom of speech."

If you're implying that Garth can make whatever comments he chooses without having anyone comment in dissent, then your comment is laughably hypocritical.

As for Garth, his strategy seems to be that if you disagree with Dion's Green Shaft, you're either a separatist or a conspiracy theorist.

Garth should know that the Liberal Party has a long history of screwing the West, and he knows they're planning to do it again.

On another matter, your comment about "bigoted responses" is a shameless drive-by smear, unless of course, you're referring to yourself for making such a comment.

I'm glad you made reference to "exploitation" because that's exactly what it is. That any party could expect to be elected based on a policy of exploitation boggles the mind.

Anon, I don't understand your "freedom of speech" bit. We're quite happy that Garth (or any Canadian) can say whatever they want to say. I'm also entitle to use that as a basis to not vote for him or his party.

As for your comment on far-right crazies, should we dig up some far-left crazies? I know just where to look. *googles Ingrid Newkirk on Canadian pages*

If you want to talk about people hanging on to old grievances, just check the Quebec license plate "Je me souviens". La belle province was a much more attractive slogan, but heaven forbid that they advertize they are a province. I am a Quebecker married to a francophone so don't tell me I am racist!
