We're nothing like the Americans

To those who say that Canadian politics is starting to look like American politics... I'd say, looking at a video like this, that we fortunately have a long way to go before we get there.

Yikes... now that's what I call "going negative".

...so of course you just had to post it so you could further spread the negativity

    Good Job

We've been there. Three elections of liberal claims of "neo-con hidden agendas;" countless lies about how the "neo-cons were out to destroy Healthcare," a task already set into motion by Paul Martin's personal MD; and the ever popular canard of "men with guns in the streets of Canada..."

Maybe the heading should have read, "... we're not like the Liberals..."

It never ceases to amaze me that someone can be so partisan to claim the Liberals have been negative, yet ignore the Cons negative ads. TangoJuliette you need help.

I know this is unrelated BUT the "men with guns"-line always reminds me of an old campaign story I'm sure I will tell my nieces and nephews once they're grown.

First, you have to know I ran as an Independent candidate in the last federal election. At an all-candidates forum in Georgetown an audience member was concerned about Canada joining the so-called "Star Wars" missile defence shield plan. It was how she phrased her question that was priceless.

It went something like "What are your thoughts on missile defence? What do you think about soldiers with guns in space, soldiers with guns" Everyone was just about curled over laughing. Everyone except for, of course, incumbant Conservative MP Michael Chong. The fact that Mike didn't laugh made it that much more funny.

That's my 3 cents on "soldiers with guns"

That is a great ad. Politics is a blood sport, it always has been, it always will be because the stakes are so high. This is the lesson M. Dion needs to learn. If you aren't prepared to play hard, then go home.

The dirty games that the Libs play and how the whole system is rigged against the Consevatives is much worse in Canada than the US. At least there is balance in the US and a vote matters there. Chretien held a majourity or two with less than 39% of the popualar vote. That wouldn't happen in the US.

Dear Anon jul 04 0230pm and Mike Wisniewski:

I spent five yrs in the Canadian military, and a number of years before that, in cadets and the Reserves. The only time I ever lifted a weapon of any kind, was while I was in uniform.

the liberal "soldiers with guns in Canadian streets" ad Campaign was the final straw which rocketed me away from the Liberal camp. And that's after years of Liberal destruction of the Canadian Military.

As best I can ascertain, The only times that armed or unarmed Canadian forces have been deployed on Canadian Streets, have been the two instances when a Liberal Prime Minister was in charge, once with a Conservative PM.

King with the Zoot Suit Riots in 1940's Montreal. Diefenbaker with the FLQ/RIN/ madness in 63Montreal. Trudeau with the 1970 anti-FLQ War Measures Act, in Quebec, primarily in Montreal.

The sinister tone in the Lib ad certainly succeeded in portraying the "Neo-Cons" as militaristic meanies of one stripe or another. The flip side of that ignorant ploy was that it also painted Canda's military personnel as almost-fascist, gun-toting stooges of some cabal of evil dudes with a vile "hidden agenda."

Hell, even I, for one brief lunatic moment believed the big lib-lie, that I too was soon headed for some sort of slave-state servitude.

Then it finally dawned on me.

Siberria, the Gulags, the midnight disappearnaces, the loss of personal freedoms and all that truly vile, evil nasty stuff?

That's all a serious by-product of the Left, not ofthe Conservatives.

Anonymous.: Don't worry. I've got all the help I need. And with that help, the Liberals are going to go down for a very long count.

Mike W.: We probably have common roots, if your name is any indication. Maybe not.

While I don't quite get your tale of "comedy" on the campaign trail,I suyspect that our respective grand-children will be looking at the whole question of "soldiers with guns" from totally different perspectives.

p.s.: Anybody see any sign, any hide or hair of a large white dog, named after a foreign car, or was it a town? ToeYoToe? Camino? Kyoto? Hope nothing serious has happened to the poor pooch. Or did he just die of embarassment, being used the way he was, as a shill for some kind of a shell game long promoted by the Enron wizards of long ago?

p.p.s.: How about that Ont Liberal MPP, eh?

The Libs'll take care of all the poor and the needy, using tons of your money and tons of my money, but behind the scenes, they'll show their true colours and behave like typical slum lords?

    Wow!!
