Guelphites reject negative Liberal campaign

Just got this via my Guelph by-election Google Alert... it looks like the citizens of Guelph are also picking up on the negative vibes coming out of the Valeriote campaign.

This Letter to the Editor was published in today's Guelph Mercury...

Stop negative attacks on Gloria Kovach - August 02, 2008

Dear Editor - Well, so much for hoping for an issue driven, positive by-election.

We're just over a week into the campaign and what do we see? Supporters of the local Liberal candidate calling Gloria Kovach names, and sending pictures around the Internet comparing her to trained animals, or implying she's just a Stephen Harper sock puppet.

Well that's not the Gloria I know. Before I'd even met her, I'd heard her name frequently around town.

She's been her own woman on council for a long time now, always speaking up with what's on her mind, and she's never been one to take orders from anyone.

It's no wonder the residents of Ward 4 have sent her back to council over and over again, even when various council slates have been wiped clean.

If this is how the Liberals plan to run this campaign, they're in for a big surprise. The residents of this city are just as vocal and independent minded as Gloria and don't take kindly to negative smear campaigns like this.

We know Gloria, and many of us like Gloria. Attacking her like this, with a baseless attack no less, isn't likely to endear us to Frank Valeriote any time soon.

Shame on his campaign for stooping so low so early in this election race.

Really - this is too funny. How do you think people of Canada feel about Harper's negative campaigning? Double-standard?

    Yup.

LOL - this is just too rich. Do as I say, not as I do Tories.

    Unbelievable.

    Teresa

Of course you didn't mention the letters admonishing Gloria Kovach for response on the Truscott compensation issue.

The letter writer is probably a Conservative supporter rather than a non-aligned voter.

Apparently for the liberals to run on issues like: CRIME, TERRORIS act bill, AGE OF CONSENT, IMMIGRATION ETC which the liberals ignored or walk away from proves that they don't give a dam about anyone but themselves.
And to say the prime minister is a bully is amusing when layton himself refuses point blank to allow anyone in his caucus to stand for what they believe in. Remember Bev Dejeneas(misspelt surname) well she stood for 'true marriage' but the NDP caucus and layton dealt with her forcing her out of the NDP party.

The same goes for the Bloc, and the liberals their leaders ran their ship with an iron fist as well.
Gloria must realize that the liberals for years have ran their campaign use "scare tactics" not to mention THE MSM supports rallies campaigns for them so if the liberals encounter problems, their MSM comes to their 'aide'

Good point Anon... you're right, I didn't mention the obviously partisan letters attacking Gloria from earlier this week.

Right.. and this isn't a partisan letter either on Barry's part eh, CC?

You refused to publish my last comment here I left yesterday pointing this out.. let's see if you have the guts to post this one, since another blogger noticed the same thing I did and publicly called you out on it.

Hey Scott, I have no problem with posting this comment of your, nor with the other guys blog post... his post didn't contain the additional false and/or libelous comments that your original comment contained.

Sorry, I'm not interested in publishing false Liberal propaganda. I have no problem posting negative comments, you know that.

Regarding Mr. Osmond, yea, I know him as a supporter... but he's not the only one who's commented on your guys negative campaign in Guelph. Besides, maybe the Guelph Mercury published his letter to counter-balance the obviously partisan Liberal letters from earlier in the week.

(balance on the part of the local media is important, don't you think?)
