Craig Oliver: "Carbon Tax sent to the Green Gulag"

CTV's Craig Oliver seems to be the only media personality to have clued into this monumental "shift" in the Liberal campaign.  But it looks like it's true folks, the "Green Shift" has been "shafted" by Stephane Dion... and the Liberal spin doctors are doing everything they can to downplay the significance of this event.

But here's the bottom line folks... it seems that Dion is no longer in charge of the Liberal campaign.  There's been a bloodless coup within the Liberal Party, and they're hoping you don't notice.

Fat chance of that...

Oliver just amazes me, I would love to know what the Liberals have promised Craig for his years of dedicated service to their cause.

A "momentary pang"?, that's what Oliver would have us believe this will be?

And did you notice how quick the comments were closed on this?

Could be because there was not one single comment supporting Dion/Oliver in their decision.

It's not just the Green Gulag that the Green Shift has been sent to... but CTV's swift reporting style. It took until just before 9pm tonight for CTV to have any article specifically directed towards discussing Dion's shifting of the Green Shift to the backburner. Until then, it appears CTV was burying the story in the "Harper knocked off message by Listeria" nonsense from 3 days ago.

I guess they finally realized that their bias is going to shine right through unless they give some mention of it... I guess that is why the article they have now put up is a defensive mumble about the Liberals claiming they have not been knocked off message.

Yeah... what bias in the media?

Just another nail in the Liberal Party of Canada coffin. No morals aka Adscam, no platform, a stake through the heart of Carbon tax and finally no money in the party coffers.

When is the funeral ? Where ? Can the public attend ?

A leader drops the centerpiece (indeed the virtually the entirety) of his platform, a platform which he's touted, toured, litigated for the name, developed websites for,

    drops it mid election,

and the media refuses to cover for it???? (contrast with wall to wall coverage of a three week old joke).

    This is an outrage.

If ever there was a time for a blogstorm,

    this is it.

Curls, you can attend the wake for the Liberal Party at your local Conservative campaign office sometime after 9pm. ;-)

I have never seen a more perfect example of 'The Peter Principle'

“In a hierarchy, every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.”
Put another way, the theory explains why people are often promoted until they reach a position that requires skills they do not possess

    So... two questions...

    1) What are the Libs going to argue at the debates?

    and

    2) Who will they be sending? Doesn't look like Dion's in charge....

After reading this and many other posts on the demise of the shift from Lib plans I opened my print edition of National Post expecting to see it as the big story. Nope - the main story is about troubles in Sri Lanka. Leafing through the whole first section I find literally nothing. Then I went to the trusty Red Star. They at least had something including this:

While acknowledging public perception of the Green Shift has been a source of frustration, Hall Findlay underscored the plan is a fundamental Liberal policy.

She insists the Liberal team always intended to emphasize other issues throughout the campaign, as they did this week with announcements on immigration and infrastructure funding to cities. "There's no question the Green Shift is a significant part of our platform," said Hall Findlay. "We really worked hard on it over the summer."

Later in Regina, Dion was confronted by Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall's critique of the Green Shift. Wall has been attacking the plan, fearing it would raise power rates 41 per cent and has compared it to the National Energy Program introduced by the Liberal government in 1980.

"I just want to say to him (Wall) and all Canadians that I would never recommend a policy if I was not convinced that it would be good for every province and territory of my country," Dion said.

Dion said the personal tax cuts contained in the plan would far outweigh any extra costs in terms of power or fuel.

The Liberals are expected to announce their full election platform next week in Ottawa. A spokesperson described the environmental policy as "the fundamental underpinning of our economic plan."

    (end quote)

Am I living in a parallel universe?
