Dion contradicts Dion on Hamas funding

Oops... Mr. Dion said yesterday (I think) that he supported the Conservative's move in March of 2006 to cut off funding to the terrorist group Hamas. But according to this video from Aaron Lee Wudrick, that's actually not true... (check the 1:15 mark of the clip for his quote from March 2006)

However, in his defence, watch the rest of the video... he handles the Jerusalem question pretty well, and his comment on arresting and trying Iran's president was pretty good... though it was not a direct answer to the question asked, which was what he would do as PM if Iran got "The Bomb".

With regard to his "reasonable" response on Iran - I note that in the March 18, 2008 issue of the Jeruselum Post, part of the plan for Cotler and his fellow law professor and compatriot, Alan Dershowitz, was a sort of "first strike" policy. To quote Dershowitz:

"is it really better for 10 potential terrorists to go free than for one wrongfully suspected terrorist to be detained? Well I guess it depends for how long he is being detained, where he is being detained, what the level of proof is against him is."

Isn't it funny where your perspective changes. When Cotler wsa the Justice Minister, and Omar Khadr was detained - he did nothing. When he got fired by the Canadian public - well, now he is a zealous advocate of poor Mr. Khadr, seeking his release from Guantanamo Bay.

I suppose the message is that due process only applies if you're killing Americans or Canadians - but can be suspended if you might intend to kill someone from Israel.

That is pathetic enough for a politician, but for a former Minister of Justice and a law professor, it is disgraceful.

I know that Canada is supposed to be bilingual, but sheesh, I'd expect someone who aspires to be the leader of our country to at least be conversant in english. At least Mr. Harper is conversant in the languages most Canadian speak, and has been taking French lessons. Has Mr. Dion taken any english lessons ?.
