Dion mixing religion and politics?

Just what on earth is Mr. Dion doing? I noticed this line in a CTV story that has some serious implications for our country:

"Later on Wednesday, Dion promised to spend $75 million to protect ethno-cultural centres and places of worship across Canada."

Excuse me? I thought the Liberals were the ones who so strongly felt that religion and politics should not be mixed whatsoever? Now, I'm all for spending more on policing to keep our cities safer, including funding for more policing with a view to protecting all places of worship. But to openly advocate giving tax dollars to faith based groups?

Didn't one guy lose an election over that idea already?

Is Mr. Dion trying to do the same thing... pandering to faith based groups to try and salvage his failing campaign? (boy, it really is starting to look like he went to the John Tory School of Campaigning...)

Yeah, that does seem kinda weird.

Btw, if you could you add target="_blank" to the end of your a href= tags so that links open in new windows it would be nice. :)

The Liberals are at the "promise anything to anyone" stage of their campaign, soon to be followed by a flaming death spiral at high speed into the political abyss.

    Great fun to watch!

Jim, I appaled that you would find the super old Liberal 1979 aircraft coming crashing to earth in a flaming ball of fire due to an engine that leaks oil to be entertaining.

Shame on you! (just pullin your chain)

Now, of course, if it got grounded for numerous safety violations before takeoff... now THAT would be great fun to watch. Imagine the stories that reporters with nothing else to do while sitting on the tarmac could come up with. ;-)

Well, he's got the Muslim vote sewn up.

Soldiers and police. In our streets. At our mosques. Protecting worshippers from bigoted Canadians. In Canada.

    "Heh.

I hadn't even thought about their oil leaking clunker of an aircraft, which probably should be grounded...a trail of oil spewing from one engine during flight!

Besides, I would never wish death upon anyone, especially Mr Dion...he is far more valuable to the Conservatives alive!"

Modified your comment Jim... watch the language. Short forms aren't cool either. ;-)

I see what you did there. No disrespect was intended nor do I think that I was using a diety's name in vain.

    Merely a common web abbrieviation.

    Anyway, your blog, your rules.

your right, the government shouldn't be in the business of protecting (end sarcasm). Religious organizations should not receive tax benefits either, and donations to them should not be tax deductible. also, we should not have voting polls in churches, as there is always an alternative to using a special interest groups multi-million dollar facility when it comes to voting.

    you must be mad man
there is a massive difference between protecting "ethno-cultural centres and places of worship across Canada." and pushing one religion on the population. Like Mr Harper would love to have happen, he's already made me step foot in an alliance church (so I could vote)

I know as a Conservative you don't want to hear this, but it is the governments job to PROTECT its citizens and MINORITIES. The Germans failed to understand this concept which lead to WWII.

Your suggestions lead me to believe that if there was a viable terrorist threat on your place of worship, you wouldn't want the government to step in and protect your congregation....and as much as I despise what the "Church" has transformed itself into, I still think that you have the right to worship how you want, without threat to your safety....and perhaps, that sums up the greatest difference between the left and the right.
