"One bad apple spoils the bunch"

You've heard that expression a million times right? I light of this week's events, I think it's an important lesson to remember.

I've been thinking about the "sober" comment made by one of our staffers. It's most unfortunate, but for this native group that only sought to have their concerns heard by the Minister, "one bad apple" spoiled things for them. One man, who had shown up to that office earlier in the week drunk, reminded this staffer of the negative stereotype of alcoholism in the native community. And it's just that... a stereotype.

I've worked with Natives in several of my jobs over the years, and out in the general community, and I can recall TWICE, only twice, seeing one of our First Nations people being under the influence. Now when you contrast that with "white folk", and I think you'll agree with my experience, I've seen a whole lot more drunks per capita there folks. Way more.

So enough with the stereotyping folks. The staffer was wrong to make that comment, period. Stereotyping like that is wrong.

Now it's time to flip the tables. Let's examine another group of people who are doing the EXACT same thing, denegrating an entire group of people based on the actions of a few... the Liberals and their supporters.

Go on over to the Liblogs, or listen to Dion's and their other candidates statements and speeches, and you'll see them doing the exact same thing. They're stereotyping an entire group based on the actions of two individuals. They're trying to say that "one bad apple spoils the bunch". They're stereotyping. But aren't they accusing this poor staffer of stereotyping? Hang on guys, isn't stereotyping WRONG?

You see, they're trying to say that Conservatives, in general, are unfit to govern because of comments made by two people... Minister Ritz with his gallows humour, and this staffer for her sober comment. Make no mistake, that's EXACTLY what they're accusing this staffer of doing... lumping an entire group together due to the actions of a single individual.

And there's a word for that folks... HYPOCRISY.

I disagree. What the MSM is neglecting to say, is that her 'rules' are based on TWO incidents in the recent past. On June 26 there was a "sit in" at her office where things got out of hand, and the police had to be called in and hauled six of them off and charged them with disorderly conduct (hence here if you behave' comment), and last week one of them showed up looking drunk (hence "if you're sober") comment. Both of her comments CLEARLY reference the two incidents with this same group of people. This has nothing to do with sterotypes. If you had a party last month and six of your guests had to be hauled off for disorderly conduct, and a week later one of them showed up drunk on your doorstep, wouldn't you say to them, when you invite them for your next party, to behave themselves and not show up drunk?

I guess the fact that on June 26th six native protesters were arrested at Mr. Cannon's office would also have no bearing on the ground rules that the staffer was laying, I guess the fact that the protesters last two times they were in the office lead to arrest would have any bareing? I guess if some one outright asks you if you will be arrested also you shouldn't ever tell them the truth. It's not a sterotype if the last two times you dealt with a group these exact things happened.

    Politicaly correct claptrap.

The Conservatives should not have apologized for the comment of the staff member.Rules are rules, nothing she said was innapropriate. The whole story has to be told by the MSM.The last native showed up at this office drunk. The time before 25 natives showed up and 6 were arrested for their behaviour.Their has to be ground rules for meetings period.AGAIN nothing wrong was said to this man and nothing to apologize for.

What you sow you shall reap, I don't want to get all biblical on this silly tantrum on the part of "the down trodden Natives" but it's really simple. You can't show up creat havoc, be intoxicated and generally raise hell to the point where the police have to be involved and expect your concerns to be taken seriously. As for an apology they should be the ones apologizing for their uncouth behavior.
    Cheers Bubba
