Liberal leader Stephane Dion CHOKES

What the...??? Oh... my... goodness...

It was a very simple question... "What exactly has Harper done wrong, and what would you have done instead?" It's the very same question he's been hammering Prime Minister Harper on for the last three days. I'm sorry Liberals, but he should have had this answer down cold. With the way he's been attacking Harper on it, saying he hasn't done enough to protect the Canadian economy, you guys should have been well prepared with an answer to this question, and Mr. Dion should have been able to point out Harper's errors without blinking.

For the record, some Liberals are trying to twist this around and accuse people of making fun of Mr. Dion's hearing problem. Based on Mr. Dion's own questions back to the questioner, you can clearly see that his hearing has nothing whatsoever to do with what happened here... he heard the question, but simply did not get it.

CTV's Tom Clark just confirmed that Liberals on the campaign said it was NOT related to his hearing. And he also confirmed that the Liberals are crying foul, and they're even threatening CTV for broadcasting this clip.

Ahh yes, Liberals once again defending the Independence of the media. How quickly things change when the shoe is on the other foot.

Reaffirms my belief in God!! I can't believe that this came from the "liberal" media. Maybe, just maybe, not everyone who works in the media is totally in the tank for the Libs!! This is definitely newsworthy. How can someone be the head of the government yet not know the answer to a simple question. Already I've heard various spins like "hearing problems", "convoluted question", ...and get this one ..."campaign exhaustion". Occam s razor...He just doesn't get it.

Layton, and Harper need to go for the jugular. I would rather see Layton as PM, over Dion. There, I've said it!

    Great blog BTW!!

Too late guys. Mr. Dion knew exactly what was said. He just did NOT understand the context. And the Liberals want this man as our Prime Minister.

Wow. That was like watching a train wreck, painful, but you just can't tear yourself away.

Hey, I'm an NDP supporter, but isn't it possible that with English not being Dion's first language he really wasn't sure what the question meant? I might have trouble with the conditional subjunctive tense in another language myself.

We'll never see the fallout completely in the rolling polls.

We'll only understand the impact on Election day.

    Fun till the last, eh?

This is all you've got left to throw at Dion? In the last few days of the campaign?

    PATHETIC

Answering a highly hypothetical question is a mistake. Dion is too honest and too direct to stick to his media lines and spin doctors strategical answer : "I don't answer hypothetical questions" is the classic response you would have got from Chretien, Martin, Layton, Harper and May (and you dont ask this to Duceppe).

But since Dion is good sport and cannot leave and unanswered question (as if he were in front of a univesrity class) he asks for details and context. But the reporter doesn't care about these details; all he cares is to make a good interview with the possibility of making anybody look bad.
As for the "liberal media" argument, they would all act the same and broadcast cut clips to make the headlines. And they did make it. Now, can we hear the rest of the interview ?

To look at it another way, maybe Dion was just shocked that the scenario of him actually becoming Prime Minister or being PM, the way the interviewr put it, surprised him so much that he really didn't understand the context of the question.

Besides, Dion had already made several announcements regarding his economic plans. I don't see why this poor interview would sum up Dion after so many other examples where he actually gave a pretty good plan to Canadians.

    And that was when?

I read about the Green Shift, carbon taxes, new social spending from the tax, some undetermined tax cuts, if any money were left from promises. Now they don't even mention the GS anymore; it's part of their hidden agenda now, along with increasing the GST back to 7%. More spending money!!
