"Our fundamentals are..." what?

Say it together with me now... "Our fundamentals are strong", at least according to the International Monetary Fund. The strongest in the G7, in fact.

In a time of global uncertainty, and with the IMF acknowledging that our economy is poised to do well, why on earth would Canadians consider throwing it all away?

We're better off with Harper.

You know that, I know that, Harper knows that, but when he says that we do not have to do anything different, he suffers in the polls because the Libs and NDP say he doesn't care because he is not planning to do anything. That is a lie, because he is planning on doing something, the same thing he has been doing that have placed us in the position we are. He does care that is why he is going to continue to keep doing the same thing so that our economy keeps going as well as it can in light of the elephant having a seizure on the south side of our bed. I don't think people realize that, and sadly neither Stephen Harper nor the CPC have done a good job articulating that. Or it could simple by the MSM with their anti-conservative bent.

    CC,

Canada's a derivative economy, anyone with a simplistic understanding of world economic structures knows that, and Harper's feigned aloofness isn't necessarily benefitting him in the polls - Layton accused him of being out-of-touch, didn't he? (not that I prefer the latter's plan of pork-belly spending à la giving childcare bonuses to famillies that make 188K+).

So let me lay the facts out straight. If the U.S. enters a crippling recession, so do we. There a number of reasons for this, but the most obvious include that 85% of our exports go to the United States (a byproduct of the Mulroney era; but then again, it was Trudeau's debt that forced him to capitulate), and that the domino-effect of bank collapses would ruin our monetary system. Geez. I bet Harper thinks that free-trade economics don't reap what they sew. Or that Canada's natural resource pool would somehow negate the hurdles of having to retool our economy. Or that the Canadian public can't call his bluff when he gets up on TV and calls it a "buying opportunity". If that's the case: wrong, wrong, and wrong again.
