Canada and Zimbabwe... just about the only difference now is the temperature.

    CC,
    take a deep breath.
There is nothing illegal about this. It's stupid, overblown and wrong for Canada but not illegal.

On another note, Harper better stack the Senate with Conservatives NOW.

I sent my MP an angry email -- he's a Liberal and I thought he was more sensible, but I was wrong.

    A sad day for Canada.

And will be enabled by a liberal appointed GG.

    8,625,498.

Thats the number of Canadians who DID NOT vote Conservative last election. That is the number of people that installed 165 non-Conservative MPs.

Those 165 MPs arent overturning the will of 5,205,334 Canadians. They're deciding that 8,625,498 is greater than 5,205,334.

In 1965, John Deifenbaker knocked Lester Pearson's majority government down to minority status. A Dalton Camp led cabal of Conservative Party leaders, from eastern Canada, knifed Deifenbaker in the back and lost power.
Joe Clark's short lived government fell after a Liberal who had agreed to abide by a twinning agreement, renegged on the deal and cast a vote.
Stephen Harper increased his totals in the House yet Dion, Layton, and Duceppe...all ative Quebecers...have formed a coalition to bring down another western based PM.
Get the message, my fellow Albertans? Our values do not count and we will not be permitted to hold the reins of power for anymore than a token period of time. It's long overdue for us to say goodbye!

I would love to see those 5,205,334voters send their message not only to the GG but to every one of those 75.

I have always heard that power corrupts, but this is beyond the pale.

So please show me where 8,625,498 voted for a coalition. That little item did not seem to appear on any ballot that I saw.

That's gotta be the most lamest argument I've heard from you yet, and I honestly do believe you are a capable intelligent and literate conservative.

Do you honestly believe that it's ONLY 75 people vs. over 5,000,000? Those MPs were duly elected by the people in those ridings, just as Tory MPs were elected. It's not like the GG arbitrarily appointed them to sit in the House. I'm pretty sure the people who sent them there wanted a Liberal government.

Plus you add the other parties' MPs and how many people voted for them, and it sure is a hell lot more than 5 million!

You think this is Zimbabwe? Get over yourself. I'm from Hong Kong and its much worse. 2/3 of their legislature are just appointed by Beijing with no vote. Now that's more comparable with Zimbabwe!

Hey there Daniel Mick, when you post the same comment on multiple posts, I assume you're a troll... and I delete the comment.

Discussion is welcome... just posting repetative talking points is not.

You do realise that Canada uses the Westminster system, right? The PM's job goes to the person who has the support of the majority of MPs. If you can't get a majority of the MPs, you don't really deserve the job in the first place. Obviously, if you have the support of the majority of the voters, then you probably could make a moral argument for your party holding power, but the Conservatives were rejected by the overwhelming majority of the electorate.

The only comparison that could be made to Mugabe would be if Harper tries to thwart the will of the majority of the Canadian people and cling onto power. But I'm confident that power hasn't corrupted him that badly...

Ok, comparing this to Zimbabwe is not only as inaccurate as calling it a coup, it also minimizes the seriousness of what actually happens in Zimbabwe and other countries like it.

As someone pointed out above, we voted for MPs, not for a Prime Minister. The elected MPs are doing their job as the opposition and opposing the Conservatives.

And what KC said ("Those 165 MPs arent overturning the will of 5,205,334 Canadians. They're deciding that 8,625,498 is greater than 5,205,334.") is right. My vote in this election was more a vote against the Conservatives than anything else so perhaps the coalition is doing the will of the people.

Christian Conservative writes: They decided to overturn the decision of the 5,205,334 people who selected Stephen Harper as their Prime Minister.

That is incorrect. "5,205,334 people" did not select Stephen Harper as Prime Minister. He was appointed. Stephen Harper received 41,549 votes. These were the votes of the people in his riding.

Funny thing -- on my ballot, coalition didn't appear, but Stephen Harper didn't appear, either. I guess because I'm not from Calgary. And because I live in a parliamentary democracy.

So I didn't vote for or against him as PM; I only voted for the MP in my own riding. Same as those 8,625,498 that you so high-handedly dismiss as being beneath your contempt.

But on the bright side, your tears are delicious.

Yes, talking points should not be posted on blogs. They are intended for use only in calling talk radio shows to try and give a pretense of a huge groundswell of outrage.

Right. That and the human rights atrocities. Like a girl in Zimbabwe is far more likely to be raped than she is to learn to read. Way to minimize that because you're angry about a perfectly legal parliamentary manoeuver that isn't going in your favour.

    Disgusting.

Come on Shannon... grow up. I'm comparing the electoral fiascos, OBVIOUSLY.

I actually have missionary friends in that country, so I know full well, likely better than most, what's really going on over there.

The comparison of how the NDP/Liberal deal is much like the the sort of thing Mugabe would do stands. Overturn the will of the people, and ensure that he gets power.

Ok, I'll bite. Where's the massive vote rigging? The political assassinations?

What's happening here is legal, and with precedent. For you to suggest otherwise is dishonest.
