The way forward

Unless the Governor General does the right thing and calls an election, it looks like we're going down next week. As such, I thought I should get out there and remind all my fellow Tories of what we need to do in the event that we do find ourselves in Opposition...

1) Everyone needs to take a chill-pill... especially those who think we should be looking for a new leader. A change in leadership is not what we need right now. This was nothing to do with Harper... this was all about the left's fear and lothing of the man.

2) Make sure you talk to all your friends and neighbours and make sure they recognize this for what it is... a blatant power grab by a few politicians, an effort to usurp the democratic will of the people.

3) Remind everyone you talk to that this is the sort of thing that is done in Zimbabwe, not Canada.

4) Keep our eyes on the prize... a majority government. With the Liberals taking a hard left turn, Rae's chances just went up significantly. But if Iggy still ends up winning, he's going to be a right-leaning leader of a left-leaning government... which should end up blowing appart real nicely.

5) Remind Canadians of this trechery, this usurption of democracy, by referring to Mr. Harper by his rightful title, "Prime Minister-elect Harper"

CC – Quite to the contrary – a new leader will be required to get my vote and I expect that I am not alone. Mr. Harper has demonstrated poor judgement in his handing of policy, parliament and publicity. What else is he supposed to do?

It is clear that Mr. Harper will never win a majority; in fact I think there is a a good chance Dion would win a minority through an election, if one were held today….

Please describe what essential skills Mr. Harper has to offer, should we ask him to continue

And if only 10% of those 5 million people who voted conservative were to give the party $100 right now, that would be a $50 million war chest :-)

Harper has to stack the Senate with Conservatives now, before it's too late.

For the record it's "loathing" and "treachery"

One of the GG’s constitutional responsibilities is to preserve and protect Canada’s national identity–this would seem to expressly forbid her from legitimizing a cabal that is effectively controlled by a regional party with the overt intent of breaking up the country

    Hey steve,

While your sentiments were understood, you used a few to many "questionable" words... while I don't agree with a lot of what you said, please go ahead and repost your thoughts, just try to use "nicer" language. ;-)

    CC,

I apologize that the choice of words were inappropriate.

By the way, I saw your comment on Kinsella's site and I want to say well done. Your insight and honesty are something we need a great deal more of at this point in time.

To restate my previous post. I blame Steve H. for starting this fiasco through his decision to threaten the financial and, by extension, political viability of the three opposition parties. A potentially brilliant political move, IF you have a majority. When you have a minority, it was an incredibly stupid move because it is premised on a 'hope' that your opponents will lie prone while you destroy them. Further, whether it works or not, it fundamentally poisons the atmosphere for this parliament, making the collaborative decision-making processes that are needed to make a minority government work impossible.

SH's decision only had one logical outcome another election within the next 10 months.

I am further shocked that he attempted this during a period of global instability.

That said, I am also astounded by the Liberal Party's decision to move forward on this coalition, with Stephane Dion as leader. The optics are awful and the short-term and long-term risks are staggering. I personally don't see how that potential storyline leads to a happy ending for them or the country.

    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks again!
    Steve

Hey Steve, I'm just trying to think back when the last time I commented on Warren's blog was... what did I say that caught your attention?

Re: Kinsella... It was a post from yesterday. The signoff was CC and the name was Christian Conservative... the tone of the e-mail sounded like you as well, so I just assumed...
