I just can't bring myself to do it

I tried, I honestly tried, but I just can't bring myself to do it... I went online to look up the candidates for the upcoming provincial by-election, specifically, the Liberal candidate. I had it all planned out too... I was going to go online, look them up, get their website address, and put up an official endorsement for them on my blog. Yep, my plan was to oppose John Tory by supporting their Liberal rival.

But no matter how much I dislike and oppose Mr. Tory, I just can't bring myself to support the Liberal candidate in this by-election. I think the final straw was the fact that this guy, Rick Johnson, is yet another public school teacher. If there's one thing I dislike more that Dalton McGuinty's Liberals, it's the public sector employees who support them, and use third party front organizations to allow the Liberals to skirt around election spending and advertising laws. (look up the "Working Families Coalition" if you don't know what I'm talking about)

Anyway, a friend of mine and I were joking that it would be a blast to organize a carload of folks to go help out in the by-election... especially if we went up to help different parties! We'll just have to see how it goes... there's always the Reform Party of Ontario, but I just have a major problem lending them my support, as they're actually TOO FAR right for my liking.

Sigh... it's sad when you don't have an ideological home for your political views. (on a provincial level, that is)

I guess I'm going to have to take a closer look at the Ontario Green Party... no, seriously, I mean it, that's how pathetic things have gotten in Ontario.

Or as I've come to call it, the Kingdom of Dalton. (Anyone else thinking "8 not 12"? Hey, I tried, I was one of the 33.1%)

    I understand your dilemma.

    However, McGuinty seems to coming to the realization that socialism doesn't work even though it might be a vote getter amongst that moochers during better economic times.

    "McGuinty launched his theme last week with media outlets, saying the era of surpluses and reinvestment in public services was over and he would be concentrating on strengthening the economy by reducing taxes and regulation."

    I wonder what John Tory have to say about that?

    Your non-support for John Tory beside your support for Stephen Harper speaks volumes.

    Here's a man who is I think a very decent considerate person. A person who has spent countless hours doing charity work and generally could be trusted.
    Of course he has made mistakes. One very very big one comes to mind.

    Here's a man who I could never trust anymore. Essentially, the way he does politics is dirty and vindictive. I would never trust him to do what he says. The man has abandoned every principle he has ever stood for. In the past, while I never agreed on his social stands, I could at least respect and agree with his views on the fiscal front. Not anymore.


    What I despise most about the budget is not only that it spends us into a massive deficit but that the money is not spent on things that could pay dividends for years to come.

    It's been difficult to continue to support the conservative party in the past for me. At east I used to agree with the fiscal policy. The latest developments are truly disheartening.

    And lets not forget, the reason why Mr. Harper was in a position where he needed to appease the liberals with a high spending budget was because he introduced a vindictive financial update.

    Don't vote green. All parties have leaders that many members do not support, and there are times that is more true than others. Hey, anybody else not know that Iggy is not a Christian?

    The Conservative movement swings slightly right, centre and slightly left based on various factors.

    You may not like the Leader, you may not like 20 out of two hundred policies, you may not like your MP/MPP, you may not like your local riding association, but you should never, ever swing your vote/support behind any of the other parties, unless you plan on leaving for good.

    Abandoning our parties based on one or two factors has always killed the Conservative movement. Change the bloody party from the inside, but always maintain a united front when facing the Opposition. The NDP and the LPC have always kicked our collective asses, because they circle the wagons and defend there own, even when they have to hold their noses to do so.

    Sorry AP, I love ya, but I think your wrong to have even considered it.

    However, the Liberals already have a large majority and one more seat won't make any significant difference for them in the grand scheme of things. It will almost certainly be lost in 2011 anyway when a local candidate is chosen. If there is no real conservative candidate (I believe there are though), then it might be best just to go with the Liberal for one shot.

    I am interested in why you do not like John Tory? Could you offer an additional post that lays out why you do not like him. I am trying to get all sides of the argument for the upcoming election.

    But let's just say, I don't think you should put too much stock in GF's opinion because of the results of his previous political activities.

    Hey CC-

    Just wanted to let you know that I went to a John Tory event/speech today here in the riding. I think he my have referred to your blog in his speech. He was talking about blogger and said he has viewed one from he logging Tories that he called "Christian Conservative" and that it would be one of many bloggers he would try to earn the support of. I think he was saying he wanted to appeal to a broad section of conservatives, that was th point of his speech.
