The underlying issue behind CNN reporter Susan Roesgen's video clip

There are several videos of CNN reporter Susan Roesgen floating around today, taking her to task over her "Fair & Balanced" reporting from the Chicago Tea Party protests the other day. In the video, she was exposed for her obvious left-wing bias, as she spoke to, or rather spoke AT with total and utter distain, the various individuals gathered there. Watch for yourself. (h/t to "Climbing out of the Dark" for the video)

But let's dig a little deeper, shall we? This video is a perfect example of exactly what many of us have been saying for years... that our current "Main Stream Media" has a very obvious left-wing slant and bias. It's a prime example of the absolute contempt displayed by many members of the media towards all those who don't share their perspective on the issues. It's just very rare that we're actually able to capture it on video.

Susan is not alone. It's sometimes funny to listen to reporters on their phones when they think no one is paying attention... most of them have nothing but contempt for anyone who dares to identify themselves as a "conservative". You can hear it dripping from their voice, and you can see it in their eyes and on their faces... that is, until the cameras are turned on. Even then, it sometimes slips out, as you watch the barely hidden glee in their eyes when they have an anti-Conservative story to report. (I'm thinking of one well known male anchor in particular, and he's not one of the "usual suspects")

Then you hear all the Liberals on the left saying idiotic things like, "Why is the media is so pro-Conservative!?!?!?" I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.

Anyway, back to Ms. Roesgen. This next clip is very telling... notice how she's incensed that someone would dare to call Obama a "Facist"... I'm getting the impression that she didn't bat an eye when folks called Bush the very same thing.

Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you. I wonder if the CBC or CTV will mention this video. I highly doubt it! We know CNN is running away from it faster than the HABS hoisting the CUP

Bryan, that's "you're paranoid", not "your paranoid".

Bush was a fascist though, there's a difference.

I have often found at Conservative functions, especially in Quebec, that the reporters try to get you to say a few words as a typical Conservative and either ambush you with a trick question along the line, or only use a tiny portion of what you said.

Needless to say, they now find it very hard to get any ordinary members to comment when the journalists go on location.

Wow. I was just utterly taken aback by the lack of respect Ms. Roesgen showed - so unprofessional and biased. You can just see the contrast between her and the protestors' partisanship - she clearly was eager to write off the Tax Day protest as an extremist movement because it does not agree with her left-wing point of view while the protestors were insisting that they cared for their taxes and were not the supporters of one particular party.

Thanks for the link Christian. It shows how biased the MSM have become, and they don't even realize it!

I haven't seen this CNN reporter video (it was pulled), but there are a couple problems with this tired re-airing of this biased liberal media theme.

    First:
Normal, thinking people have contempt for partisans who either swallow or perpetuate stupid arguments. Every party has them. Instead of crying bias when one of your own or promotions from your side get skewered in the media for being dumb, why not stop doing dumb things? This knee jerk reaction stuff just encourages stupid behaviour.

    Second:
Everyone and every media outlet has some kind of bias. Media outlets need audiences, so they'll tailor their own bias to maximize their audience. The Star is the biggest paper in a left leaning city, so it shouldn't outrage people that the Star is what it is.
Fox News caters to conservatives in the US, and have cornered the market there. Bottom line, politically at least, media bias doesn't lead people to vote a certain way -- media bias follows public sentiment.

And this tax day thing? Yes, it's stupid. Obama is temporarily raising taxes that only affect the richest Americans, and suddenly there's an uproar among ordinary people? Nope. Just more astroturfing.

I'm curious on what your opinion of Fox News is? Really, I'd like to hear what you say about them, because if you actually believe that they're a legitimate news organization, then my opinion of you would be sharply reduced.

I think the whole underlying issue is how good a job the media does in presenting an actual "fair and balanced" view of the issues. That's particularly difficult if you're covering an obviously partisan event, such as these tea parties. As well, the people who report are not always going to go about it the perfect way.

Thank God we in Canada have the CBC and CPAC.

Does CNN even matter anymore. Fox News gets 400% more viewers.

Well, here's a clip, from the Bush years, in which she chirps gaily, over a shot of a man wearing a giant Bush-head with red horns, "But while a lookalike showed up with a wad of cash, Mr. Bush did not..."

    "A lookalike..."

And the horned one was a lookalike of "Mr." -- not "president" -- Bush.

    Don't Tase Me:

I don't watch Fox, because I consider it too far right to provide objective coverage (as well as simply intellectually insulting - note I read the National Post), though I doubt if you were really interested in a "fair and balanced" perspective you would rely on the CBC for news, since it's monolithically feminist, environmentalist, culturally Marxist, etc.

...But I mean, really, there's three kinds of news outlets: those that are decidedly left-wing, those that are decidedly right-wing, and those that try to occupy the political centre and strive for "objectivity." In Canada, if you subscribe to the National Post or Toronto Star you ought to know what you're getting, since their respective mission statements spell it out: partisan coverage (the CBC, too, espouses a post-Trudeau, leftist perspective). By contrast, if you're looking for something less "biased" - though by no means infallible - the Globe and Mail is a good choice, as well as the BBC (which is centre-left, but vaguely so), or CNN (which is centrist in American terms, but vaguely so).

Of course, whether partisan or not, all these outlets have their purpose. It's just funny that people complain about the Post and Star all the time, since all it reflects is that they're either a) intolerant of other's views, or b) naïve enough to think the function of news is, without exception, to provide fair coverage.
