Congrats to all you "soft on crime" ninnies... we're one of the world's biggest drug exporters.
New strategy... how about, you know, actually "punishing" the offenders? Like how about significant "mandatory minimums" for producing and/or trafficing?
I'm thinking 10 years, MINIMUM, without parole if you're caught producing. I'm thinking we need to grant the police more powers to deal with people they know are producing, but they don't have enought to get a warrant. I'm thinking like 5-8 years for transporting over 500g of "E", because if you're moving that much product, your intent is to sell... that's not for "personal use".
We're the laughing stock of the world now. It's time to saddle up, and lock'em up. We could sure fight a winning campaign on this one.
Oh yea, and no house arrest.

Liberals work with the government on crime?
Not likely, but they would call for a study group into the root causes....right after they blame PMSH for taking Canada in the wrong direction.

You're coming at this from a conservative perspective. Liberals don't see this as crime. The Liberal solution is to legalise drugs and give free needles and healthcare to the addicts all the while blaming society for their problems.

If anything is embarassing its being the western country where the both of the largest parties are ignoring all of the studies and simple observation of "tough on crime jurisdiction" and enacting drug war legislation. These policies don't reduce drug crime and anyone who is paying attention knows it.

KC, I submit to you that it's because resources are going too much into nabbing the lower level street punks, which looks good on a stats sheet, and not enough towards the upper level guys, who are harder to nail.
We have to give the cops more powers to nail those jerks. We'll need more informants, which costs money. And the left will have to stop it's war on undercover officers, as they do in the name of "privacy".

Answers: None and none.
But why not pass the buck, duck responsibility and blame the Liberals. That is the Conservative excuse for pretty much everything.

So quit acting like a conservative and ducking responsibility. The Conservatives are the government. When are they going to start acting like it and stop blaming everyone else for their inaction.

The Conservatives introduced Bill C-15. It would not in any way affect the growth of this drug trade. Not one little bit. It is yet another example of Conservative crime window dressing when existing legislation is adequate and needs to be enforced by the government. The only thing that gets the drug trade is to go after the drug traders. Changing sentences from a few years to a few more years has been proven to be ineffective.
And yet, while Bill C-15 does nothing for this issue, it is not a bad crime law entirely. And here's what the Liberals said about it as soon as it was announced: “Bill[s] C-14 and [C-]15? We have said that we’ll support both of them. We agree with tougher penalties for serious and violent and chronic offenders. But that alone isn’t going to do the job. That’s why we believe this government is failing significantly in their drive to deal with the issue of crime. They’re failing Canadians because they’re not emphasizing crime-preventing, they’re not providing resources for youth programs, they’re not providing actual police officers on the ground, [and] they’re not providing prosecutors.”
Exactly. Pure window dressing just so they can claim they are being tough on crime.
Conservatives are not being tough on crime. They are trying to be tough on criminals and are being stupid on crime. They care about optics not results when it comes to crime. Heck, Harper's chief of staff even confessed that that is EXACTLY how they look at the issue. Politics over policy.
But better blame the Liberals for our problems and duck trying to take any responsibility.

I still don't get why drugs should be illegal. Sure, they're often harmful when misused, but I still think that people should be free to harm themselves if that's what they truly want. The reason I'm a liberal (note the lower case L there) is that I truly believe in freedom.
