And the Nobel Prize for Best Speech Delivery goes to...

Barack H. Obama!!! That's right... Now all you need to do to win the Nobel Peace Prize is to deliver a few good speeches!

My response... ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!? The guy hasn't even been in office long enough to effectively implement ANYTHING that could have made the world a more 'peaceful' place. Maybe in two years when we see the effect of his policies, but certainly not so soon into his term.

When Pearson won it, it meant something. Now, IT'S A WORTHLESS TOKEN, as we've seen today.

You're just such a kneejerk American wannbe republican that you have no idea what you're talking about most of the time, you people are going to get him killed, and then the shit will hit the fan. Christian fundamentalists are a disgrace to Christianity, you have no vision, discernment and the truth is not in you.

Right on schedule Jerry... and pretty much what I expected your response to be.

Could you perhaps tell me WHY Obama deserves it? Pray tell, which peace deal did he broker? Which peace summit did he host? Which ceasefire did he implement? Which peacekeeping missions did he launch?

According to the Merc, the nomination deadline passed during his first two weeks in office. So let's be truthful here Jerry... OBAMA HADN'T DONE SQUAT TO DESERVE THIS AWARD.

"You people"... did you just imply that I have a desire to kill the President of the United States? I beleive that falls under the catagory of libel, Mr. Pranger.

Come on CC, you know that Jerry Prager’s form of christianity is the only correct one. Obviously it doesn’t preach tolerance, understanding and love. It must be hard to get messages from god with all the tin foil wrapped around his head.

The Noble committee took nominations up until the middle of February, which means Obama was only President for a month. Sorry, but he has done nothing yet. I wish him well, but what is his record?

Bush was and is an idiot, Clinton, Bush senior, Regan and Carter were little better. Obama will impress me if and or when he can fix the US economy and political process. I’ve yet to see him do anything yet, but I do wish him luck.

Gina, I believe you mean, "Congratulations to Speech Reader Obama!"

In defense of Gina: he is, in fact, the President.
Presidents are defined by more than speech reading. And to his credit, Obama seems to be quite involved in the writing of his own speeches.

I thought his acceptance speech was rather good. (Especially insofar as he did not seem to think he deserved it either).

And as for the legitimacy of the award... It has been awarded to people who seem to have nothing to do with peace in the past. Henry Kissinger comes to mind. I'm sure there are other questionable recipients that come to your mind (though not mine). Al Gore perhaps?

And the award itself was created by the guy who invented dynamite, but wanted to be remembered for something else...

Uh-oh. Maybe I am getting as cynical as some people fear...

Actually, it became a worthless token when it was given to Al Gore a couple years ago.

Nah, it became worthless when Yasser Arafat won it.

Not that this is a contest or anything...

    Jerry,

Who's response was kneejerk? All CC said was that he disagrees with Obama receiving the Nobel prize when he's barely been in office long enough to implement any substantive policy - a sentiment shared by about half the commentators in the media (and since when is praising Pearson's diplomatic accomplishments characteristic of a "wannbe republican"?) And you launched into a borderline prejudicial diatribe stating that "you people" - Christians interested in politics, I suppose, - "are going to get him killed." Sounds like you deserve the ignoble prize for a lack of self-awareness.
