Liberals step in it again! Oh the irony!

Gotta love this blunder... seems the Liberals have launched yet another backfiring "contest" on their website. Remember the last one, the photo challenge? Yea, that one went REAL well.

Anyway, this new one is the Stephen Harper 'Just Vacationing' Out-of-Office Reply Challenge.

Now, for the irony part...

Where exactly is Stephen Harper right now? According to Stephen Taylor, he's at work, IN OTTAWA.

And where might Michael Ignatieff be? ON VACTION, "JUST VISITING" EUROPE!!!

Another contest, and another FAIL from the Liberal Party of Canada!

    sure are making alot of noise today about an issue that you say no one cares about. funny to see taylor suddenly show up too. facebook group at 35,000 currently.

    How about poor Barack Obama? AP is crying over his supposed shortening of his vacation in Hawaii because of security issues. Don't know why he doesn't vacation in Chicago or Indonesia - he doesn't exactly have tons of relatives in Hawaii and he didn't mingle with the common folk either (they had a cinema in a shopping centre exclusively for them for a showing of Avatar)

    As opposed to the FB group "Look- a Bandaid" that has over 83,000

    I wonder how many of those 35,000 even know what prorogue means or what group they joined. I get sent invites to groups all the time, doesn't mean I join them, but then I am not a 20 year old anymore either.

    In defense of Ignatieff... Christmas/New Years is the time you're expected to visit family/friends. I don't think the location is important. Though I know it fits with the "just visiting" theme...

    Harper has prorogued parliament for months. It doesn't apply to Ignatieff's vacation. And I think the timing is... convenient. And I was slightly amused during the Mansbridge interview, when he was asked about whether or not this had anything to do with the committee looking into Afghan detainees thing, and his response was more or less 'well, no one cares anyway'. Which is, probably, more or less, true.

    I have a sneaking suspicion that news of some sort will come out in the intervening days/weeks. At a time when few will (or are expected to) notice.

    Or perhaps they would just rather face the opposition in the spring, once all of that stimulus money that is supposedly getting spent (but hasn't really been) gets spent (once the ground thaws, and shovels that are ready can... dig holes).

    Something is up with the prorogue. If it were just about democracy, parliament would re-convene sooner.

    I have three problems with this whole thing. (Probably more if I thought longer, but I'll spare... everyone including myself).

    1a . Chretien would have done this sort of thing if he needed to. But he didn't. He had three back to back to back [wait... three backs?] majorities... with less than a majority of the popular vote.

    1b. This is exactly the sort of thing Martin was doing or at least trying to do when he had a majority.[This should perhaps be #1a. But Chretien was a better politician than Martin... in my humble opinion].

    2. Stephen Harper is better at this stuff than any one of his opponents. Seriously. He's really good. I think he has a very good chance of winning a majority soon. Slightly more than 50% chance of winning, I'd say.

    [Though that has more to do with my own feelings than anything objective, I'm sure. His win would do nothing for my mental health [wait... ideological health? ... no, mental... which would do nothing good for my mental health. But... Credit where credit is due.]]

    3. What are the liberals doing? "Just vacationing" is a stupid. He's not. And they know it. I hate being treated as if I was born yesterday. (20 years ago would be fine though).

    Anyway. I hope you enjoyed your holidays, but I'm glad to see you're back.
