Classy NDP MP's leave Liberals high and dry

In what can only be described as a classy move, the NDP has withdrawn their support for a House Committee probe of the Gurguis-Jaffer saga.

In a move clearly aimed at staying out of the political mire, and away from the dirty and almost gleeful political mudslinging of the Liberals, the NDP have effectively left Michael Ignatieff and the Liberals holding the bag (of what most Canadians would describe as manure...) as the only Party left trying to make political hay out of this non-issue.

Once again, the NDP shows why they deserve to be the standard bearers of Canada's political left... because they're able to tell the difference between real issues that need to be addressed, and non-issues that amount to nothing more than political gamesmanship.

If it's a non-issue, why did Harper fire her?

So much for open government and accountability...

    Just another broken promise.

You ascribe a higher motive to the NDP than what is deserved. They saw this item was losing traction and credibility and bailed. If they knew the dirt was going to stick they would have stuck. Cheers. FernStAlbert

What do you think changed their minds? Was it Magnum PI's interview from the Bahamas?

Perhaps true FernStAlbert... but since lots of folks say I don't give the Opposition credit when it's due, I think I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Besides... this move makes the Libs look bad, so they deserve EXTRA credit. ;-)

The Liberals are not alone in their comments...they have the media snuggled right in beside them...

Maybe the Dippers realized they would be investigating something that is public knowledge, that did not happen......

Jaffer did not get approval on any one of the 3 proposals he submitted.
    Where's the undue influence?

Jaffer did not have any contracts, nor did he get paid by any clients.
    Where's the wrong doing?

It is a bit late to play any classy card.

HArper should give Geurgis her old job back and apologize. It's just mudslinging without substance. Harper should fix his mistake.

    Dear Anonymous:

Geurgis became a non-issue because Harper fired her. If he had not fired her, then it would probably have been an issue.
So you see, this is how open government works. The minister must take responsibility for her actions and when she didn't, the PM fired her.
So, its not "just another broken promise". Its what fulfilling a promise looks like. I know we had decades of Liberal government where we never really got to see what accountability looked like.

Did you watch that classy Pat Martin yesterday. Oh, and have you read the PIs facebook page where he thinks the NDP changed its mind as beans were spilt and Jack is worried about how close this will hit an important NDP.
