Iffy hits "Magic 25%"... will Liberals pull the plug on the professor from Harvard?

I didn't think it was possible, but "Iffy" has gone and done what many thought was impossible... he's hit the "Magic 25%" in the polls... back firmly in sub-Dion territory, a full point below Dion's 2008 election result. (And the numbers are from EKOS, as we all know, a pro-Liberal pollster)

If you recall from earlier this week, the "Magic 25%" is apparently a number circulating amongst some Liberals... the magic number that could trigger another leadership revolt, and could spell the beginning of the end of Ignatieff's leadership.
Persichilli: Michael Ignatieff’s 25 per cent problem

Although many Liberals believe that Ignatieff will not lead them back to power, they aren’t planning to try to dump him before the next election. But there is a magic number circulating among Liberals these days: 25 per cent. If their party sinks to this number in the polls, then all bets are off.

Liberals are resigned to another defeat, as long as the Conservatives don’t win a majority government. But if their party sits at 25 per cent, there is a chance of Prime Minister Stephen Harper winning a majority, which would keep the Liberals out of government for at least another four years. This scares many of them because Liberals out of power are like fish out of water. If they perceive that Harper can get a majority, the Grits would like to get rid of Ignatieff, regroup around a new leader and go to the polls trying to defeat the Conservatives.
With all the negative stuff that's been thrown at the Tories in the last few weeks, I didn't think it was even possible. But Ignatieff has somehow managed to do it once again... to find a new depth for his party to sink to.

You are right on your analysis.

Some Libs. seem quite shocked at there horrendus numbers yet still think forcing a culture war is a good strategy.

    They have lost their way.

No,Ignatieff's not going to lead the Libs back to power, unless he can convince the non-academic community here to NOT vote.

Still, in the eyes of Paul Desmerais, he must be more acceptable than Dosanjh or Rae who have more baggage than a charter bus.

I'm enjoying watching the aristocrat face rejection from almost everybody in the Country, and look forward to borrowing his next book, "Canada, A Failed State".

It does not matter what leader that draws the short straw next.

When you stand for nothing, attack everything and hope for Canada to fail you will become a fringe party.

Look at the Bloc and NDP and how they attack everything that helps Canada.

Global Free Trade vs protecting Unions, special interest groups.

The Liberals have joined them and overlooked us.

A large number of us don't follow any party blindly. We want honest government, less waste.

The Liberals complain they have talked policy and no one is paying attention.

I can't find any substantive policy debate from them. They did find time to introduce Canadian tax funded abortions for the Congo.

Not much else in 2010. They like to cooperate with the NDP/Bloc too.

I've always assumed that, when Iggy was installed as leader in December 2008, there was some kind of agreement that Iggy's performance was to be reviewed (by say the caucus), on each anniversary, or whatever. It just doesn't make sense to me that Rae and many other MPs would give Iggy an open-ended, unaccountable, unreviewable run as leader.

So when Iggy appointed Donolo last November or so, my take was that Iggy was feeling heat from the caucus, sensed that he was going to be dumped by them, and so offered up Donolo as an indication he was going to turn his fortunes around.

Anyway, I'm probably totally wrong. But the LPC Constitution requires that they hold a convention every two years. Next one is due in March 2011. I'm pretty sure a leadership review will be on the agenda.
