Naming the G20 fake lake

Okay, I gotta admit, this looks bad... but I'm betting that it was a less expensive sounding idea when some underling who's helping to organize the conference suggested it. But of course, as with these things, now we get to wear it.

Maybe we can call it "Lake Mistake-a". (instead of Lake Muskoka)

It's not just that stupid, asinine, 'pond' ---- It's the whole G-20 ONE BILLION DOLLAR mistake-by-the-lake.
And it's not at all funny or defensible. This one will be the death of the Conservative Government. I think you will be surprised at the number of ex-conservative voters this will generate.
    People like me.
I'm done with this supposedly 'conservative' collection of clowns. Bad enough to WASTE all that money -worse still to defend that waste and indeed brag about it.

It would be a less expensive idea to hold it somewhere other than downtown Toronto. Somewhere like, ironically, a real lake.

It is far more expensive and complicated to have something like this in downtown Toronto.

I'm sure there are reasons for the location choice, however. I suspect that this event is good... "practice".

    They are practicing.

It's a chance to get experience dealing with security and crowd control in an urban setting. It's a chance to use new toys, like... "sound cannons."

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Practice makes perfect. Or so I hear.

I am sick of their giggles I feel they have no interest in Canada
Prime Minister Harper is the best Prime Minister of Canada
he makes me proud to be a Canadian every day
it would be nice if the media would put Canada first and keep their hidden agenda to themselves

This not only looks bad, this is extremely troubling for those who conservatives expect to stand up for conservative values. One of those values is not spending money you do not have. We clearly do not have $2 billion to throw around since we have a deficit. It is bad enough we had to provide all the security, but a 'fake lake' when the Muskokas alone have so many real lakes? This is the last straw. Have these Conservatives lost all 'Common Sense'?

Hey CC, check the comments on this subject over at the Iceman. It clarifies things a bit. Once again (surprise, suprise) people (media) aren't telling the whole story.

Perhaps we are having the wool pulled over our eyes on this one....according to a commenter (anony) over at Iceman's, this "fake lake" is a standard display that is sponsored by Muskoka tourism. The same display they use in all their tourism type shows.

Kind of puts a different perspective on it huh, but no nearly so headline worthy.

The media is counting on the continued outrage over the costs to drive the polls on this in the Libs favour - not telling us the whole truth may give them that.

A fake lake to house fake journalists who will write fake stories re the summit.
I will not change my vote for conservatives due to this. Think of the alternative, PM Layton or Duceppe.
Toronto is a perfect place for a fake lake.
It would be nice to know who come up with the idea, and who ran with it.

MaryT, the Muskoka tourism board would have come up with it as part of their many promotions they do at various trade fairs. The gov't probably had nothing to do with it.

But don't count on our media to give us the facts.
