How Rob Ford can/will win again

The left has made a huge strategic error in teaming up to get Rob Ford removed from office. If he doesn't win on appeal (which many think he will, see here for an example), there's a pretty easy way for him to win the hearts and minds of the voters on this issue... and he'll barely even have to open his mouth.

First event of the campaign, get a venue with a stage, so the cameras all have a nice clear sight line. Then, either in full football gear, or even just nicely dressed, walk out on stage with his "team"... flanked by a dozen or so kids, who otherwise wouldn't have been able to play football without the money he'd raised. (I'm sure he'll be able to find more then enough volunteers from the ranks of the kids he's currently and formerly coached)  Have him say a couple of words, talk about these kids, the lives they've lived, and about how coaching has been about giving back to the community.

Then say just a very few words on what this is REALLY about... a few folks, with money, who don't like him or his policies, and who want the city to be run their way. People who couldn't win at the ballot box, so they gave the suburbs the middle-finger by voting against subways for them (meanwhile they already have subways in the core... not that these folks likely ever actually use them...) and then removing the duly elected mayor that residents of the suburbs voted for.

Then, and here's the kicker... get one, just one, articulate young man to say a couple of words of thanks to Rob Ford for all he's done for them. Maybe tell his own story, maybe one of them was steered away from a life of crime as a result. Or who knows, maybe one of them even got a football scholarship thanks to Rob's support over the years. Can you imagine that one? Take all the wind out of the sails of the left, before they even have a chance to open their mouths.

Because let's face it, the voters understand this one... Rob Ford the do-gooder, trying to help a bunch of underprivileged kids, versus a whole whack of VERY highly privileged individuals who just don't like Rob Ford.  Game. Set. Match. The voters will decide who's right on this one.

I mean, can you imagine the good these guys could have done by funding Rob's kids, instead of spending thousands of dollars on the various court challenges they've launched in a misguided attempt at political revenge?

He broke the rules so hence the Gravy Train Mayor has to pay the price.

He has more time for his "Hug-A-Thug" football team.

No more of this idiot mayor taking time off his duties to skip off in the afternoon.

    No more Gravy buses.

Stop the Gravy do not elect Ford!

If he was to do that at the first event that would not go over well now if if was to say a few words about the team and local football that would be fine but to base the whole event around the team would back fire.

I think it is a perfect opportunity to attack the judiciary.

Since the ever-biased and corrupt judiciary in Canada sees fit to be left wing sycophants (as usual) and side themselves with every looney left cause and attack duly elected officials, then they should be held responsible. I'm sick and tired of the judges in this country running the show like it's their own personal little ivory tower feifdom.

If Ford wants to win he has to play it smart this means not going after the legal system it really concerns me people seem to think if your elected you should not be subject to the laws and like it or not what Ford did was wrong.

"it really concerns me people seem to think if your elected you should not be subject to the laws"

And I don't care much for judges who remove duly elected leaders from power. The left was ready to try any sleazy trick in their power to rmove Ford from office and the judge couldn't wait to show those ignorant peasants of the public who was REALLY boss.

The judiciary in this counrty are a bunch of arrogant asses who are drunk on power and they need someone to "go after" them.

You are pretty disgusting to besmirch the reputation of a conservative judge just because you don't like his decision.

Did you even read it? Can you even read?

Hackland was appointed by Harper and even let Harper off the hook recently by dismissing Guergis' lawsuit against him.

This is actually a very conservative judgement: Ford broke the law and he is being punished for it. No judicial discretion here, he followed the letter of the law perfectly. It is actually an excellent example of why "minimum sentence" laws are downright dumb on crime.

The truth is: Ford did this to himself. Sure the hardcore haters may have taken advantage of his stupidity and stubborness, but if you read the decision and all that went before and all the chances he was given - moderate left and right bending over backwards to save him from himself - you can only conclude that even Toronto doesn't deserve a mayor with this much anger, disregard for the law, serial liar and downright idiot.

And CC? As for making a serious strategic blunders, nothing can match Ford's blunder.

What modern city anywhere (other than Washington DC, Detroit and Montreal) would ever elect a mayor who admits he doesn't give a sh-- about conflict of interest laws or ethics?

In court, Ford admitted, despite 12 years of elected office, he couldn't once be bothered to read the Conflict of Interest Act, or the helpful guide given to him by City Hall, or attend any of the many seminars on ethics and conflicts. He ignored legal advice and the advice of the City Hall Speaker that he was in conflict and should not vote on his own punishment. He is mayor and says he doesn't know the laws!!

Ford is done. And his supporters know it which is why they are distancing themselves from him and starting to organize their own campaigns already.

His entire commitment to helping kids is solely dedicated to a single team at one single school.
